Zappo
Got bored in class today and wondered what a WRX STi scoop would look like on an 850. I wouldn't mind doing this to mine if I could build a functional airbox under it and feed it directly to the innercooler. Let me know what you guys think.A scoop that far back only serves to blow air on the turbo. I suppose you could run a pipe back to the stock airbox location, but then it gets really hard to into the bottom of the box where it needs to be. There might be room to relocated a custom airbox above the turbo, but then you need to build a much better heat shield. It is really too big for an intake though. A lower profile scoop would be better.
TCSchwa
That scoop looks horrible on an actual car. I'm glad I put this before the jury before I cut a huge hole in my hood. What happened to Eastern Aerospace? They made a neat little scoop that fit right above the airbox and had a low profile.
Nebor
What happened to Eastern Aerospace? They made enough money that they all decided to retire.
dancetheman
What a simple search for "+hood +scoop" yielded: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...&hl=hood++scoopjust when i was getting ready to repost it...
Volvoson
You could easily just turn that scoop around and have a nice vent to get rid of excess heat comming off the turbo That way you won't have as much heat in the engine bay, so then you have lower IAT as well, thus accomplishing your goal after all :)

rodrigo
not a big fan of hood scoops on Volvo's.If you want to route it to the intake, why not use a pipe to feed from the front?
gdizzle
Try the scoop off a new legacy GT. It's a lower profile and boxier, it'll look better with the lines of the car IMO.
tomtbone
Yeah not a big fan of it really on our cars.ANyone know what kind of grill that is? Looks funky
dragon17
Cool....Thanks for the honesty. I'll look into something else. I just wanna find a way of getting more air in there.Get a carbon fiber hood with vents.
JESSEXC
At one time I was planning on building something like this. I even bought a spare hood to use it as a mold. But one of the members on our board needed it and now it's ruined.
Guest DougK
Personally I'd rather do something like this on an 850Not nessecarily in the same locations, but same idea.
ProjectT-5R
WOW, eastern aerospace.... I dont think I have heard of them in years. Most of the current members probebley dont even know of that joke of a company. for the scoops there is also an issue of air flow. Look at how flat the grille and lights of an 850 are. no look at how flat a bug gaurd is. (notice the simalirity) well in the same way a bug guard directs air over the car so the bugs will not hit the wind sheild, well the front of our cars does the same. a scoop mounted low, and far back would not really pull in much air because of this. now getting hot air out of the engine bay would be good. JESSEXC
That would be cool but can you imagine on how dirty everything under the hood would get. With the one I pictured I was think of added a gate with an actuator. That way you could open and close it with a switch in the dash.
