Cat Back Replacement And Choices

Recommended Posts

I replaced the original cat couple of months ago in my 95 850 turbo with an aftermarket downpipe(DEC). Now I am think I need to replace the rest of the exhaust(the cat back). The car now has 108000 miles and wanted some ideas on what my options are on replacing cat back or the whole system from the turbo back and is worth to spend money for high performance system at this age of the car. I know people have a lot of different systems on the 850 but i am not sure where people buy these systems from ..., i was wondering if people would be willing to give me some input on my options that I came up with below. I need to know which of my options make sense or i am wasting money. I have broken down my options and questions as follows:

1. Get a high performance cat back and attach is to the existing aftermarket(DEC) downpipe..I am not sure what size my current aftermarket downpipe is ?. will a system like IPD, engstrom, eurotuning, SS or Ferrita work with this after market downpipe.

2. replace the complete system fom down pipe to the tip with one of the above vendors.

3. just replace the cat back with original volvo part...

4. Should I get a exhaust from a local exhaust shop or am i looking for trouble.

i think some over here are vendors selling down pipes and exhaust ..if you can give me an idea for what would be best suited for my requirement.that would be good and a price too..

5. can i get a list of contacts for looking into Supersprint and Ferrita systems..

thanks for your help..

There aren't any 3" systems available except by Rizzo (AudioX47).

:angry::lol::D:P

you do that just to tick me off right?!

850onbrick I sell a 3 inch turbo to tailpipe mandrel bent 3" setup for $685, 100 extra for race cat. I also sell the stainless steel parts, $525 for catback and $740 for the downpipe (with race cat). You can call me at 847-340-4185 or email me azizzo@ypc-inc.com. Stainless exhausts usually ship next day, the full 3 inch system can take up to 2 months

For the record the name is Zizzo, NOT Rizzo

Stay with the stock exhaust unless you have serious mods.

The stock muffler is actually a really well designed piece that can support a lot of horsepower yet remain very quiet. My muffler guy says that VW's use the same style muffler and that there's only one baffle inside to restrict flow.

The large volume of the stocker let's it absorb lots of exhuast pulses without creating tons of back pressure.

You really don't want to stay with the stock cat back if you have an upgraded downpipe. Think of a beer bottle going from the thick end to the skinny end as your exhaust and you get the idea of what the flow would be like.

Have you seen the stock muffler? It is the size of a suitcase and looks a lot like one. Just the weight savings from removing it is probably worth 5 hp. :P

If you have a chip or are doing an MBC the stock exhaust is probably holding you back. My boost dropbs off big time at high rpm in low gears and I'm guessing the exhaust is the culprit. After Zizzo's 3" JT gets here I'll let you know for sure.

Dude- always selling eh?

Your input is more believable when you aren't constantly selling your opwn goods..

Face it, 3" all the way is way too much for most people..period.

Oh God... <_<

There is no such thing as "too much" exhaust for a turbocharged car. Period. There is absolutely nothing to lose by going with 3" over 2.5". Your baseless, unfounded comments and general lack of knowledge regarding the issue is appalling to anyone who has an inkling about the topic.

Don't force Doug and I into beating people over the head with the own stick again.

Ditto, with a turbocharged car you should install the largest exhaust possible

Hey Joe, I think you need to break out the biggest stick possible and and let the education begin ;)

Ah, but I do not comment publically about the "goods" I sell. The only thing I really talk about are porterfield brake pads, bilstein dampers and yokohama tires and I sell none of those three. He asked what his options were, a couple people suggested the system I sell. I told him how much that option would cost him

but advice is always appreciated
