I've also heard this 'blind faith' cliche thrown around alot.

Call it a cliche if you wish. It doesn't change the reality. Belief in "God" is based on FAITH! Can you "see" God?

Do you believe that Mars is real? Have you ever seen it with your own eyes? Have you ever touched it, or been there? We believe that Mars exist because based on the amount of evidence (eg. gravity that affect earth's orbit and a whole other pile of evidence) we think it is a safe conclusion that Mars exist vs. the idea that Mars does not exist.

Of course I "believe" in Mars and Gravity! There is clear evidence that they exist! Can you make such a solid claim about the existence of "God"?

That's all people of faith are saying, based on what we have (archeological, historical, quantum physics (Einstein), human behaviour, personal experiences), we lean on the side that it is more plausible to believe that there is a supreme being than not. Let's just say that there are scholarly, educated people who are people of faith, not that this alone makes faith true or not, all this illustrate is that the phrase: 'blind faith' is a cliche and not a well thought out argument.

I suppose your think your "arguments" are well thought out? I am quite surprised that you are blind to your own blind faith!

You cannot dismss all people's spiritual/religious belief to this dumb cliche!

I didn't dismiss peoples beliefs at all! I said...

"To each his/her own.

Whatever butters your toast...."

Now we can close the thread if you want :D

Yeah, close this thread. At least we agree on that...

I agree you will probably not see God apear before your eyes to give you "proof" of existence.

But everything else you can see is here for a reason. Science cannot explain that nor can anyone

who does not belive in God. Big bang.....ha ha....big lie is more like it. There is plenty of scientific

evidence to refute that "theory".

Rabbit, all I'm interacting with, is this statement that you wrote: "Belief in a God requires faith - blind faith at that."

This statement implies that ALL people who have a belief in God requires blind faith. I don't know how else to read/interpret that. Did you want to clarify? Because I simply disagree with that. All I'm saying is that some people believe in God based on what they consider to be good support and evidence.

Now, if you can say that not all people who believe in God have a blind faith then we are in agreement, we're all good. BUT, if you insist that ALL people who believe in God require blind faith then I think you are wrong.

So, which is it?

by the way, I hope it is obvious that I do agree with the notion that belief in God requires faith, just not that kind of 'blind faith' that you refer to.

I'm with JC.

Viggen than is. Not the other guy.

Historically, many things can be proven. Jesus was a real person, the places he went were real, the people he knew were real. To go from there to "The Son of God" is a HUGE leap as far as I'm convinced. I was raised Catholic, attended Catholic schools and universities and all I've learned has lead me away from religion.

couldn't agree with you more Chris..

Prove there is a God? The alternative is too believe we evolved from a single cell that came from who knows where after a huge explosion that no one can explain. Whoever believes that "theory" has far

more faith than I will ever have.

Awesome point. B)

Science > Religion.

here's how it works.

all these whacked people need a 'reason' to be alive, and they can't bear to think of life as a random accident. soooo.... Jesus (who was a real guy,yes )... and all his homies came up with this story.. over time, people added to the story.. this story is called the bible..

and all these people bought into it, cause it's a good story.

think of how great the entire world would be, if there was no religion. just step back and think about it. it's scary.

you wouldn't have 1/2 of the problems we face in todays world. maybe there would be different problems, but who knows.

I'm completely comfortable knowing that when I die.. i'll die.. and that's that. no sense in wasting my time believing in something where, if i'm real real good.. and don't covet my neighbors wife.. i'll get to spend eterntity in heaven...

Sorry, I can't go on for much longer right now but I'll try to explain better...

Virtually all of the countries/states that contributed to the creation of Western Civ today were founded on or possesed a highly religeous society. Arabic Numbers, The Athenians and democracy, Europe during the Renaissance, North America settled to be free of religeous persecution in England and then the creation of the US, etc.

Sorry, I gotta go for now...
