Should Cheney's Hunting License Be Revoked?

I love how they all played down the wounds saying he just got "peppered pretty good". Well now it seems a few shot are resting very near or on his pericardium, that's the lining of the heart according to the wifey doc, and caused a heart attack. I'd say that's more than being sprayed, and closer to what I predicted a shot would do at 30yds.

I just happened to turn on the news this morning (had 2 inches of snow on the ground and was looking for a weather report) and Good Morning America had a story on bird hunting. They said something about 25 yards, but I didn't hear where they got that from. I came in towards the end, but apparently they had done some pattern testing to estimate the range.

They were out in a field, but couldn't scare up any birds for a demonstration. I don't know if they have reported on what the area was like that Cheney was hunting in, but the field the reporters were in was grass no more than a foot high. You could easily see anyone for a half mile in any direction.

Now we know why he was in ICU and wasn't fine like they wanted you to believe.

Has to be the biggest non-issue since Abu-Ghraib.

Tell that to Lynch.

This is from a 12 gauge, so a 28 gauge is a little less in the velocity category. Luckily the VP was firing a 28 gauge, if it were a 12 gauge his friend would most likely be dead.

I said the exact same thing too my wife. I have and do enjoy hunting grouse here in PA so I don't get the whole story either (now with grouse(PA wild chickens) we use 12 and 20 gauge #6 to #8 shot with mod or improved cyl. chokes depending on territory and at that range yes he probably would be dead )? Now I heard he admitted to having a beer before hand which I could care less about, however I also heard that he was warned for not having a quail stamp not only did he make a mistake but he was illegal as well? Is that like a federal thing? I know technically you need a stamp(which I believe you can get at the post office) to hunt woodcock in PA not real sure how that all works. Scott is taking a total beating on this one ...the whole adminstration is a mess? Just my thoughts ;)

Doesn't matter if he was illegal or not, nothing is going to happen to him. If it were you or I, we would have at least been fined, possibly more. Politicians have the power to make this go away. Doesn't matter the party.

This whole story is like gold to comedians. :) Every day more information comes out that seems to have been covered up at first, and that means more jokes.

Ok from what I know about hunting you have a certain area in FRONT of you that you can shoot at safely while seeing what youre shooting at. Now if this guy came up behind Cheney, it really doenst make sense. Thats a pretty big mistake to shoot someone in the face and chest, but hes an OK VP right? Blah...sorry I hate the Bush administration.

yeah, it does make sense. when the man approached from the rear he did not communicate his presence and while he was walking he flushed a bird. have you ever heard a bird take off? it's somewhat distinct. i'll bet cheney did a 180 right there and fired reactionarily just like anyone would do. you would have generalized the direction from the sound, picked up a visual target and shouldered that weapon and shot asap. you hesitate, you lose the bird.

albeit he shouldn't have of turned an about face and shot, but he did and his buddy just ended up being in the way.

it's not compeltly cheneys fault, it's half the texans fault.

also, to take an opinion against cheney just because you hate the bush admin for whatever reason is just wrong and extremly closeminded; you automatically assume that he did something wrong just because you don't like him? that's grand.

Sorry but 70 years old, drinking and guns- sounds like he's still after a fun time. Must beat the yeast out of hangin' out with Hillary and Barbie Boxer.

At least he was using his own Gun. Does this sound safe?

ABC News: THIS WEEK, March 12, 2000

SAM DONALDSON Debate over public issues can be an intense and tough thing. Everyone knows that. But the debate over gun control has suddenly turned very mean and very personal. We resume our interview with President Clinton. By the way, do you own a gun today? You used to, I know.

BILL CLINTON Yes. But I don’t have them here in the White House. I have owned— when I was a boy I had a .22— when I was 12— and then I had a shotgun and I’ve owned a handgun or two that had been given to me.

SAM DONALDSON Do you still shoot them today?

BILL CLINTON No, when I— I’ve gone hunting a few times since I’ve been president, but I’ve always just gone with friends and borrowed a shotgun when I got there. SAM DONALDSON Recently?

BILL CLINTON Oh, I— when was the last time I went duck hunting? Couple of years ago, I guess.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Clinton went duckhunting at Christmas, 1993. The news reports started, "Eventhough President Clinton supports gun control he nevertheless went duckhunting." These people make seven digit incomes and want to be taken seriously.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SAM DONALDSON OK. Well, we started by...

BILL CLINTON But let me say that, you know, I grew up in this culture. I’ve never called for banning guns, banning hunting. I’ve never been against sport shooting. I— I believe that people ought to have the right to do these things. The thing that— you know, I even had a good relationship with the NRA at one time when I was governor. They did a lot of good things in my state. They helped train people and gun safety courses, young hunters, for example. They helped to resolve property disputes in rural areas of my state where we were worried about people hunting in various areas. They— you know, I just think that their knee-jerk reaction to any gun safety measure is wrong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NRA knows what it wants. It knows what it wants has no validity in constitutional doctrine or historical practice. It has to respond hysterically to anything that might threaten its ideological house of cards. Its success is a measure of the dysfunction in its opposition.

At least he was using his own Gun.

What is your point? A 15 year old boy shot and kill 3 people in a high school this morning. "At least he was using his own Gun."

You must be Republican, because a Republican can't stop dreging up Clinton anytime a Republican does something wrong. What does Clinton have to do with Cheney in this matter? This isn't a difference on political views, and the only reason this story is even in the political forum is because it is a political figure. If it was a democrat or someone from any other party, we would still making fun of them and discussing it.

But, since you want to bring up Clinton and gave us a little story on him, lets compare. Did Bill shoot anyone while hunting? No. Who cares if it was his gun or not? In fact, if it wasn't Cheney's gun that he was using, there might be a case that he wasn't used to the trigger or something.

Actually I am not a Republican, Just a Federal Firearms Instructor. The point was not even realy aimed at the Former President, but his wife the NY Sen. who made several comments regarding this issue over the past several days regarding the current VP not having the proper ($7) perimit and his lack of acceptance of responsiblity in this particualr incident. My pont is that the current VP has far more experience as a shooter than the Former Prez, and this occured. This same incident could have easily occure in a 2000 Duck Hunting Trip as well.

Maybe if his friend was 12 feet tall. :) Oh, and it would have been a 1997 duck hunting trip, the Clinton interview was in 2000, according to your post.

Cheney did wait 4 days before his interview on Fox News. For a public figure, this seems like a LONG time before talking about it.

As for Hillary, I haven't heard anything, but then I am not in New York, and I am usually still at work during the news, so anyone if anyone was talking about it, I wouldn't know. I mostly see it in the paper.

Cheney admitted to holding his gun, squeezing the trigger and firing the load that hit his friend Harry Whittington in the chest. Versus Clinton, who denied that Monica Lewinsky held his gun nor sqeezed his trigger nor that he fired his load that stained her blue dress. It is fairly simple to determine who is more honest and credible.
