This is THE hot issue this week and possibly through the election.

Personally I think the only way to go is:

1. ALLOW THOSE ALREADY HERE TO REGISTER AND STAY AS LEGAL IMMIGRANTS (120 day registration period) Basically, a FINAL AMNESTY

AND

2. IMMEDIATE AND TIGHT BORDER CONTROLS BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY

AND

3. IMMEDIATE DEPORTATION FOR WHOMEVER ARE STILL ILLEGAL AFTER THIS FINAL AMNESTY.

Why is it a hot issue, again?

500,000 people protesting in Los Angeles in opposition new (and weak) Congressional Legislation that appears to begin to go after illegal immigration.

And its the big topic on capitol hill this week.

I think its going to be a hot issue in November.

It is one of those strange issues that people bring up all the time. They tend to use the excuse that immigrants are stealing jobs from Americans, but I have yet to see that. Maybe taking jobs from teenagers at fast food places, but that is really all. Most jobs that they take are ones that Americans won't do anymore. I worked on a farm for 12 years. The number of Americans working there continually dropped the entire time I was working there. A lot of that had to do with the child labor laws which basically eliminated anyone under 18 from working. The rest left because they found better paying jobs. Wages increased (they were always above minimum wage, and in some cases a few dollars an hour above), but the only people applying were Mexicans. They do the work and happy to have a job. Win win. No American lost a job because no American wanted it.

Now, I do agree that automatic citizenship for any child born on US soil regardless of the nationality of the parents is wrong and should be removed. Way too many are scamming their way into the country using this.

I am NOT advocating DEPORTATING those who are already here. I am merely saying NO MORE FOR NOW, UNTIL WE SAY SO. And for those here, lets make you legal. And if you refuse to become legal, you go.

I can't think an anything more fair.

It doesn't affect me directly, but we do feel the effects of it... what gets into your country shows up in ours. I'm all for deportation and strict border control.

Oh it will, once there are 40 million illegals here and no more jobs.... <in Spanish> Hmmm we could go just a bit further north for free health care!

Guest worker permits are ok. If they want to reap social benefits, they MUST pay taxes.

Tight border controls. Shoot to kill. Illegal immigration WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

Registered immigrants, if not gone when visa expires will be jailed into a work house program. after a reasonable amount of time is spent to appease the offense, they will be deported with NO HOPE OF RETURN!!

Immigrants in the US for more than 4 years will be expected to denounce their former national allegience and become a US citizen within 3 years after the initial 4. If not, they will be deported with NO HOPE OF RETURN!!!

I think it would be too huge of a task for the US govt to "round up" & deport those illegals that are here already. I think the border should be completely sealed, not just 700 miles of it as propossed. And there needs to be a system set up for those that are already here to come forward & become legal citizens so they can pay some freakin taxes. Here in Northern VA, we have tons of "Day Laborers". Most of these folks wont work for less than $150-$200 a day. Yet they pay no income taxes. In addition, the town of Herndon recently used taxpayers $$$ to establish a center where day laborers can meet with prospective employers to arrange jobs for this tax-free income. This is crazy to me. Anyway.....to sum it up. Im recommending complete closure of the border, stiff penalties for business that employ illegals, and an expedited process to nationalize those that are already here. I just think that if your coming to this country, you should contribute to its prosperity. Not exploit the system.

That's ironic! ;)

Close the border to Mexico and there goes a ton of good, cheap labor. Plus, there's a reason these people are fleeing their country, right? I'm no bleeding heart liberal, far from it. There's pros and cons to leaving the borders as they are.

I like Carlos Mencia's solution. :)

It affects everyone whether directly or indirectly. Definitly down here in Miami where the illegals are plentiful. Just look for the landscaping carts that are every 5 cars in the line. As for deportation, here I think they'd have a hard time going about that seeing as how its just the way Miami is...

like javadoc said, there are a lot of pros and cons. one con would be more expensive produce. many americans would not perform that kind of labor when they can be paid the same if not more at a fast food restaurant. if they are deported the wages for farm laborers will go up thus causing a higher cost of fruits and vegetables.
