Cheap Fmic Conversion..

Recommended Posts

Bumping this thread up because I need some questions answered.

My car is off the road and i'm starting the gt35r conversion.

Now, I took out the stock IC yesterday in hopes of making room from my FMIC, but i soon realised that you don't gain any room by removing the IC because of the way the brackets are welded to the condensor.

I really have two options if I want the new IC to fit properly.

1) Fab some brackets and move the whole radiator/condensor/fan assembly bac an inch or so. This might not work all that well since the fan is already pretty close to the motor.

2) Remove the AC condensor. I don't mind going this route becasue I only use my AC maybe once a year when I go on vacation. Now, i'm unsure what will happen if someone engages the auto climate control and the AC kicks in while the condensor is missing and the systems is not pressurized.

Thoughts?

Buy an intercooler that is less than 4inches deep! :P

It's 3.5, but thanks

Anyone else? Johann, where are ya buddy?

Here..

I would remove the pump if you want to remove the condensor.

Also with an open system there is this drying unit/pod (don't know what it is called in English) which will be useless after an hour or so and needs to be replaced if you ever want the system to work again.

Hmmm.

So I can use the same belt if I get the pulley? I'm scared to call Volvo for a price on that thing.

and will the drying unit be garbage regardless? even if i pull it off with the condensor so it's not run on an open system?

I guess the pump won't last too long if run on an open system either?

Shit!

Mine is 3.5 and fits just fine ;)

How tall is your core?

I think the x70s are different because Doug has the same core as me and he was able to mount it in front of the condensor, but mine hangs down a good 1-1.5" past the bottom of the bumper if I try to do that. Maybe the 850R bumper comes down lower?

If im not mistaken, i believe he notched his bumper support to be able to fit it in.

Mine is 8" tall and currently hangs out the bottom by about 3/4-1" however I've fitted the R bumper and it covers the exposed part left by the stock 850 bumper to my satisfaction.

ANd Doug did notch his bumper support, that is what those lines drawn in the picture are for.

Cool.

Yea, after looking at it again tonight, trimming that support is what i'm going to do. SHould fit right in there :)

The Haynes manual shows a different belt routing for 850 without a/c but I couldn't find it in parts store and FCP doesn't list it. I bought a few sizes and returned those who didn't fit. I have a 500K6 right now (50",6 rib) and it's fine 99% of the time.

Someone here is using a 495K6 (49.5") without problems.

For teh 1%, last week it heavily rained and when I turned at a stop, water splashed and the belt squeeled for about 10-15 seconds. That's why maybe a little shorter belt would be better.
