notasccrmom Posted July 1, 2006 Report Share Posted July 1, 2006 So I was looking around under the hood at my stock intake the other day...There is this smallish black plastic shield that mounts right where the stock air inlet meets the radiator on the front side of it. It basically looks like it's blocking the direct air flow into the intake tube. Anyone still with me? Anyways I took it out for shi ts and giggles. Can't tell any difference yet, but I figure it can't hurt with the summer temps right? Maybe I'll take a pic if you guys want me to. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Seamus Posted July 1, 2006 Report Share Posted July 1, 2006 The early cars had a snorkel that reached down the front of that radiator about 8”. This was prone to taking in lots of water and filling the airbox if you hit a vary deep puddle of water. Volvo did away with the long snorkel and put the shield there to direct water away from the opening. I took mine off (dang! I forgot to put that on my mod list in the new garage).
