Little Plastic Piece Near Stock Intake...

Recommended Posts

So I was looking around under the hood at my stock intake the other day...

There is this smallish black plastic shield that mounts right where the stock air inlet meets the radiator on the front side of it. It basically looks like it's blocking the direct air flow into the intake tube. Anyone still with me? Anyways I took it out for shi ts and giggles. Can't tell any difference yet, but I figure it can't hurt with the summer temps right? Maybe I'll take a pic if you guys want me to.

remove the bolt and take it out

its there to block any large debris from entering the intake

but you have a K&N panel, so you won't need it there

you DO have a K&N panel right?

What difference would having a K&N pannel vs. standard air filter make?

I'd love to move the horns, but where to they easily move to? I know... search

lots of places....

p.s. look underneath the car, there's a few brackets open :P

better filtration and more airflow (supposed) through the filter.

K&N, for me, is just piece of mind

they'll last forever if you maintain them

and something i can add to the modlist

move the horns next to the battery (search! good job!)

oh, and cut apart the plastic piece where the flap bolts onto, so it's "level"

can't really describe, but dremel it out so the hole isn't there anymore

I know what you mean about making it level. As far as searching goes, I found what I was looking for. However, I'm not new to this forum thing... just this one. :P Thanks anyways guys!

The early cars had a snorkel that reached down the front of that radiator about 8”. This was prone to taking in lots of water and filling the airbox if you hit a vary deep puddle of water. Volvo did away with the long snorkel and put the shield there to direct water away from the opening. I took mine off (dang! I forgot to put that on my mod list in the new garage). I would suspect if you are planning on fording rivers you should leave it on, if not…Junk it..
