California Or Bust

So last week I planned on driving to California from Indiana in 2 days. Day one I drove 1180 miles in 18 hours and got to Boulder Colorado. Day 2 I got about 5 hours into Utah...just finished climbing this huge mountain and the car starts stuttering while passing 2 semis. Pull over, pop the hood. Coolant everywhere. looks like it came out by the Turbo. EMPTY. Won't restart. 'Sounds like' timing belt, but it's fine. Pretty sure I warped the head. It must have drained so fast that the coolant temp never raised. Sadly, I had done many 'fixes' to the car the days prior e.g. new control arms, brakes (rotors, Mintex C-Techs, SS Lines, ATEV(?) Blue etc...). But the two things I forgot to do was critical: fix the coolant sensor and the check engine light. Oh, I had figured out what was causing the CEL. I thought it was the gas cap, actually there is a little vacuum line that runs to it and right beneath the front axle it had come apart. I put it together, cleared the light and it was fine...until it came off again. So I tied it down better, but didn't get by Autozone to clear the light. D'oh. Anyway if you have never been in Utah, imagine what landscape you would draw as a background for dinosaurs to roam in and you have Utah. I was stuck between two exits; the two exits were 140 miles apart. My tow was originally $250, but I got it halved for buying him and his girl dinner. Then I had to rent a Uhaul for almost $800, but it wasn't that easy because there are no UHauls there. So my buddy had to ride his motor cycle for 4 hours, pick up a UHAUL in Grand Junction CO and drive for 2 hours to get me and then ride his bike back 6 hours. So I got to sleep in nowhere at the motel 6 for 2 nights. Since I don't know anyone except my bro in LA, I dropped the car off since I still had the tow dolly (yes, it scratched the cat back and destroyed (!) my front bumper) by his SAAB guy thinking a Swede is a Swede. Anyone know anyone that is in LA that could hook me up with a head or something... FWIW I am in denial right now and not thinking right and not going to bother to edit my post...

Unfortunately LA is a very large place, where abouts are you located?

In the San Fernando Valley there is Rankin's, on Hazeltine. In Santa Monica there is Viking Motors on Pico, and a several others, but need to know wher the you are located in order to recommend the best shop that is close by.

Never thought of a coolant hose by the turbo, thought it'd be an oil line. I have new Samco's.

Currently, I am in the Irvine/Tustin area and the car is somewhere around East Santa Ana. I got the estimate a minute ago. Shop estimate for a head gasket, warped head and valve job is $1900...

How much is a used long block 16T C/V/S 70 motor?

i know all about the heat we have been having.

question...were you trying to start car in desert with no coolant or what? did you add it or water? when it wont start, what do you mean?

by the way you almost certainly blew one of the heater core hoses under the turbo or the air filter.

may not be as bad as you think.

then again, it may be
