I was able to find some information, but not all. Here is a quote from the Illinois Holocaust Museum

Like Jews, Gypsies were singled out for racial persecution and annihilation. There are numerous Nazi policy statements available calling for the total extermination of the Roma population. In a 1939 document Johannes Berhrendt of the Office of Racial Hygiene issued a brief stating that “all Gypsies should be treated as hereditarily sick; the only solution elimination….The aim should therefore be the elimination without hesitation of this defective element in the population.” Heydrich also included the Gypsies in his final solution – Gypsies “should be given the same treatment as the Jews.”

Adolf Eichmann made the recommendation that the ‘Gypsy Question’ be solved simultaneously with the ‘Jewish Question,’ Himmler signed the order dispatching Germany’s Sinti and Roma to Auschwitz on 16th December 1942. The ‘Final Solution’ of the ‘Gypsy Question’ had begun.

im in the military and i am thanking them. thanking them for giving me lots of good things to do with my life. this country may be monkeyed up and mess up but we are the best country any where. people point out our mistakes because every one is looking at us, you see almost everything that happens here or has to do with us becasue every one else cant stop wacthing us. america kicks jerk and yes we make mistakes but that doesnt mean we are the worst country. I actually found some additional info that stated it was 11 million and the number included the 6 million Jews.

To clear up the whole "how many died" issue... I have been studying Jewish history from the age of 6 up until now. Jews were NOT the only ones persecuted and killed in the Holocaust. The number was roughly 12 million people who were killed, included in that number were Jews, Christians, Gypsies and other small minorities. The reason that the Holocaust is so important per say in terms of jewish relavence is that the Nazis almost wiped out the entire jewish population. It was probably a dent in the christian and gypsy population but it was close to an extermination for the entire jewish people.

I'll say this:

I didn't get it for a while. I didn't understand why there was all this bloodshed over a stupid, small piece of land with, arguably, little value. I'm not horribly religious, but I still can't conceive how a holy site can play such a huge role in so much death.

Then I went to Israel. And now I understand. Say what you want, but I say this unabashedly, with no doubt in my mind and with nothing to convince me otherwise: if Israel is destroyed, every Jew in the world is placed in extreme jeopardy. For years I thought my place in the US would be a place where I could be safe forever. I still feel that way. But then again, so have Jews in every other place they've been persecuted. I'm not calling anyone here, in Canada, in Saudi Arabia, or "the disputed territories" a Nazi. All I'm saying is that Israel forces the world, one way or another, to care about the Jews. And while many countries want it destroyed, its mere existence ensures that the Jewish people have a voice on a national level.

It's a difficult concept to understand if you're not Jewish. Hell, it's even a difficult concept for me. But having been to Tel Aviv, having been to Jerusalem, having seen the 19-year old soldiers walking around, I do understand. I don't claim that everything Israel does is right. I do say that the countries around it seek to destroy it, and to destroy it quite possibly spells the end of Jewish civilization. Which, really, is what that area of the world wants.
