1997 Glt Upgrade (lpt). Would A 1997 T-5 Ecu And A 15g Bring It Up To T-5 Power?

Yeah, what he said.

I rode in a 97 lpt with 16t, down pipe (3" If I recall Correctly) and an IPD ECU. It was notably quicker than my 855 turbo... Even with the 17PSI ST chip.

However, that block didn't last very long... so use caution. I would think a T5 or R ECU would be ideal with a 15g/16t.

actually they use the same block, same head, same crank and same rods, ... only thing that differs is the pistons and the only thing different there is the height to make it higher CR .. so it will last just as long as a normal T5 engine just keep it from detonating and you will be fine

Sorry - I meant that with the higher CR and a little too much boost (well, more the inaccurate tuning) his block didn't last too long.

Sorry, I´ll try to explain. The lpt engine will give you more low rev torque, this combined with bigger pistons (more rod stress) makes this engine a rod killer if you tune it bad.

They can´t handle the same boost as a stock blocker T5 and probably the most important engine to tune with care.

I know you guys like to test new stuff but IMO it´s a big risk and engines are expensive, you got both Rica and TME dealers in USA now and I can only recommend you to use it.

Mike- Thanks for the info. If I find the GLT in the shape I want. I will definitely do that. I appreciate your input.

But you had the IPD upgrade, that´s what I mean.

That was the reason I was modding it. Scott told me that I could have a reflashed upgrade for $400.00. By the time I was ready it no longer existed. ;) Car was running pig rich even at 17 psi. Sold it and have a new Project now.

Cool, I mounted a 19T kit on a lpt last year, awsome engines but really fragile at high boost. 17 psi as max on the 19T with a custom ECU program, ran low 13´s and still running strong.

Faster than the T5´s on highway races but had to keep the rev limit down to 7000 rpm because of the rods.

My best 1/4 mile was 14.2 ;)
