Volvo S40 (2000) Readiness Test Failure

the above post is mine, just forgot to log in.

here it is again:

That procedure is rediculous. There is no way that you have to do that to prepare your car for an emissions test. You want to reset your computer, unplug the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes. If you get a check engine light, it takes three drive cycles to clear if the condition has been corrected. My suggestion is pour a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in on an empty tank, fill up with premium, and make sure you drive at least 20 minutes before your test.

and definitely come over to s40concepts.net

Mr. Winkey,

In my book, you seem to have the most credible statements on this message board. I plan on doing the drive cycle thing while I'm driving on vacation mid-month, and then taking it in for a retest shortly after. Driving on interstates on country roads will probably be safer than I-95 in Philadelphia! If I fail at the gas station again, then I'll pay the $150 at the dealer. I'm somewhat suspicious myself whether this would work or not, but if possible, I'd rather do the drive cycle than pay someone. Perhaps it hasn't reset itself because I don't drive 45-50 mph in my standard driving -- it's either < 35 mph or > 65 for me

I'll keep you posted, but look for an answer towards the end of August.

Thanks!

Amy

P.S. -- Looks like xcite logged in as an Unregistered??? Or, is that another dis-believer?

Perhaps you should stick to giving your advice on S40 concepts and not here as we strive too give the correct and best advice possible! Quite frankly you guys are BOTH incorrect(exciteS40 and yourself) please try and post correctly and not mislead . I personally am a 19year master technician specializing in Swedish cars ...where do you work Burger King perhaps???

Goodluck Amy and let us know how you make out...Thankyou for choosing Volvospeed B)

Mr. Winkey, someone sure is full of themselves. I'm no master tech, but i can pass an emissions test without going through a 20 odd step readiness procedure. Keep your smart jerk comments to yourself. I was just giving my 2 cents, not saying that i'm the absolute know-it-all on emissions testing, and i'll gladly stay at s40concepts, this forum is a joke, you'd rather spew at the mouth then keep it friendly, i mean, we all drive volvos here right?

Xcites is absolutely right and there's no certain procedure like that. Listen Amy, if you REALLY want to learn about your problems, go to www.forums.volvospeed.com and you'll get all the answers. People here have no clue what they're talking about

Amy,

You are by far one of the dumbest bichez out there. Another "dis-believer"????? Xcites is actually of of the most knowledgeable Volvo people out there, so is FluidGroove and 1clean01. If you think that people would actually do that stuff before every emission test you are absofukinlutely out of your retarded mind

This is getting quite comical. I still think Xcites, 1clean01, and now Tomedkaz are the same person. Or, at least I treat their advice with an equal amount of respect. Perhaps there may be some things that you know about Volvo's, but in this situation, you have not said anything credible. For some reason all of these logins are referring to "www.s40concepts.net" -- perhaps this is a website not worth visiting if there are people like Xcites, 1clean01, and Tomedkaz on that site!

By the way, for those "non-believers", Volvo even has a brocure on the OBD II emissions inspections and readiness test. In short, it describes the procedure that Mr. Winkey pointed out. Volvo Corporate verbally told me that this is a problem in some cars and that this did not get enacted into PA law until after the 2000's were already made, which is why it is a problem for some cars more than others.

And yes, I will be running this test on my way to Canada, less than 400 miles away from here.

well, whatever advice you take, best of luck with your problem. Wasn't aware that an emissions test in PA needed such rigorous preparation. No hard feelings.

by the way, xcites40, tomedkaz, and myself 1clean01, are different people, all with s40's that belong to a community s40concepts.net that is devoted soley to the maintenance troubleshooting, r&d, performance and style of the x40 series of volvo automobiles. We have 1100+ users, domestic and foreign, that are all very knowledgeable and are more credible than you'll ever know.

You're about as credible as my local Volvo dealership that drove me to this board in the first place.

Look like you already got your answer from Mr.Winkley. Next time, you should bring your car over to this house and he will fix it for you. We not begging you to visit any forum, just as an invitation but I'm sure we don't need your help or inputs on our forum. I reply to this post in the begining just trying to help a fellow S40 owner and I think it's quite ridiculous to have this particular drive cycle to pass emission test. I'm still not quite sure now PA test is different the rest of 49 states in U.S but we have NO OTHER members with plenty 00 model passed emission test without any of this mumble jumble. It take the most 40 miles normal drive after a reset of CEL light to have the systems monitors ready for emission testing. About Volvo dealers (always some exception), they're pretty much dumb in all model not just S40. I can figure what wrong w/ my car before they do. Good luck and have fun w/ S40.

VS moderator pls lock this thread.

s40concepts.net FTL

just had to say it...haha

mrwinkey is right...alot of people dont understand what they do when you go for the emission test, and laws are different state to state.

Volvo has always had a bad history when it comes to passing the monitor's...even when your car does not have a problem. you need to drive it in the right sequence. If not you will never pass.
