Weitec Scam?

how many of you have ever heard of a scam where the product in question was actually a great product?

OEM shocks, and springs that don't quite fit on either a saloon or a wagon. Bargain.

Shox.com has the OEM Sachs for $359. You guys do the math there. Me thinks the shite will hit the fan when the majority of the VS population wakes up. Still, the part numbers were different on mine versus the OEM ones that were on the car and I am pretty happy with how the kit works. I guess it's hard to say for sure about the sport characteristics of the shock until I try something else on the car. Maybe I'll try some Koni's just for experimental purposes and switch the Sachs to the S70.

Maybe you got the Volvo Sport sachs stuff on originally. The shocks in the kit are base 850.

check the link http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/produc...roducts_id=3532

Then look back at the part number in my photo on the first page.

"Ref: 30.553058"

edit: the same goes for the rear parts, I checked.

Ok I have had both an email and a phonecall from KW. When I get back from work I will post the relevant parts of the email that confirm the following:

1) To keep production costs down on Volvo orders (as they are very infrequent 2-3%) they bundle Sachs shocks into the Kits.

2) These are completely OEM standard, not revalved, not re-engineered. 100% Stock. Like your regular 850 tdi, glt.

3) They will change their website's description which is misleading.

So this "naive cross-ponder" will take his "cynicism" and get some Konis and his money back. :D

If you think this is OK - cool. I'd be pissed for that dollar.

In summary:

Weitec = Stock shocks + lowering springs. Improve your handling for much less dollar at your OEM parts store. ;)

Good Research. While I am a little displeased that i paid about +/-$100 more for the OEM shocks + weitec Springs...not much to do now. The kit has been on my car for a while, and when they eventually go bad, I'll replace them with Konis or some other shock. Since the FSD's will work with eibach, im sure they'll be just as good with weitec springs

For the record, I never claimed the shocks were re-engineered. I find no fault with repackaging.

However, it IS wrong to mislead in the description of one's product which was apparently done on their website. Anyone could sue and easily win their lunch money back.

Sorry about the naive thing. And "pond" is irreverant humor FYI to your chum.

After all though, that's a pretty sweet option still. Great ride, just springs.

For completeness this is the response I got from KW. Like all companies, with a little work you can always find a decent employee. My contact at KW/Weitec has been completely polite, considerate and helpful.

Thank you for your Email and your phone calls. With this Email we are trying to solve the problem and confusion. First of all we want to state clearly that not all of our Weitec suspension kits are Sachs dampers!!!

For a small percentage (2-3%) of our Weitec suspensions, there is only a very small demand from customers. Therefore it is not efficient for KW to manufacture these dampers by itself. In order to serve the market and the few inquiries we receive about the special applications, we buy dampers from Sachs and include them into our Weitec suspension kits.

Up to now, our customers were always happy with this solution and we never experienced any problems with the dampers or anything else. So please be assured about the quality that we want to offer our customers by not using e.g. cheap China manufactured dampers.

So there you have it. Any ambiguity in the email was cleared up with a phone call today. He said it was quite possible that this inclusion has always been the case.

Seriously thanks for hearing me out over here guys. I'm a guest on your forum, and appreciate being listened to. Hope I haven't ruined anybody's day, just spreading the Ovlov :)
