Weitec Scam?

good job....so, did you find out if the springs were actually matched to the sachs?

I doubt it since they just said they manufacture very little for the volvo, so they probably just put the springs on stock, and they claim that it's matched to perfection.

basically, is it true, then, that you can just buy the stock struts/shocks, and throw on a good spring (any lowering spring), and expect the same thing as a "weitech" setup?

All this praise of Weitech was all psychological?

Well, I'm glad somebody finally returned from KW with an answer on this, my attempts have been fruitless. The entire weitec thing started like this, I had some weitec experience from my vw days and loved them, so I found out they were now selling kits for volvos. Started emailing their US distributor, Rapid Parts, asking about them and how much, etc. Rapid wanted nothing to do with them, but I kept hounding them about it. They said they would sell individual kits only, but not offer the US warranty since they knew nothing about the cars, they argued that the suspension on a S70T5 espec and a S70T5 US spec were not the same. After digging around and the help of some members on this board, we concluded that was false, I presented the evidence and waited to hear back. So after that, Rapid approached me, and asked me if I would want to sell them and they would honor the warranty and distribute them through me and only me since they knew nothing about the cars and I did. So I said sure. I ordered a kit for myself, a kit for doug and springs for kevin to try out and review them. Kevin wasn't pleased with the ride height, but was pleased with the ride of the springs only, Doug loved the entire setup, and I loved mine, still do.. As stated in this thread, the shocks were only labled with weitec stickers/decals. Since then I've had a few group buys for them since I was constantly being bombarded with PMs, IMs, and emails about them. I tried to offer what I/we thought was a great kit/product at a good price, I barely made anything on these kits and it was barely worth my time or the headache. I first raised a brow about the shocks when I installed mmetz kit for him a few months back, them TomTbone emailed with the same concerns. I emailed Rapid and got the answer of "dunno" from their president and he said he'd ask Weitec about it, never heard back. I've sent this thread to certain people asking for a reply or an answer and none have yet to reply, so I am glad somebody got back to Pzorb. Kw/weitec has been such a pain to deal with, and a few guys in the last GB know exactly what I'm talking about. This is deffenitely the straw that broke the camels back for me...

Anyway, I appologize to those who have purchased the kits, I was just trying to get another product for us over here.. :(

who's to say that the first set of weitecs is the same as the ones they're selling now?

you may have gotten the good versions in the beginning, but they began shipping the generics since the demand was increased

Greg, anyone taking time out of their lives by helping to make off the shelf Volvo aftermarket parts more available to the end user is alright by me, and hopefully everyone else here can realize the value and intent of your efforts :)

I think it would be the other way aroudn unfortunately. If the demand increased, I think they would design their own shocks then.

My shocks/struts are the same ones that you can buy from FCP.

The springs are good :)

The extra comfort i have must be the change from the C70 struts (which were a terrible mix of sport & comfort) to the softer struts

Greg, thanks for your work in geting us this product. While this is displeasing.. the springs are still a good thing for these cars. Lucky for me, my struts needed changing, and i wanted to lower my car. Now, for those still interested, if you can pair the springs with a good shock/strut, you'll be set.

If there is any recourse please let us know. I wouldnt mind paying a little more to support a forum member's efforts, but the extra cash we paid went to KW/Weitec... :(

Thanks, but I think my weitec days are over. If anyone is still interested in the springs, I can get them but I'm not going to push, not that I ever pushed the kits either... I have a new product in the works, coilovers, and they should be money and a great competitor to the KWs.. :) I also have a few other things I'm cooking up so stay tuned.

greg, i can't imagine that anybody would accuse you of being in on a scam or knowing about this, and i don't believe anybody has. I don't think you need to defend yourself when all you were trying to help others. Don't sweet it and your reputation as a ball breaker is still in tack.
