XFORCE
Hi on my 00 XC I want to get a ST ecu upgrade, what should I do before doing this upgrade? I want to change the plugs to ngk iridium as IPD and EST recommends, I already have done a custom dual exhaust ( love it) want to also change the air filter, but from what I've read on the forum some of you guys say the factory intake is just as good, what about a regular k&n highflow ? Any other tips you guys could give me ?I also have a problem with my stock cat, check engine light comes. I was looking at the 3 in downpipe (as a replacement) at est and ipd, this may be a stupid question, but the downpipe has the highflow cat on it already or is that a seperate piece? from what I read it says it has a 02 port, so thats why I'm asking you guys ?And since the first generation XC have a weak tranny, by doing these upgrades, do you think it would kill the tranny any time soon, I'm not a hard driver anyways. Oh by the way the motor has 151k on it lol

RussB
BEFORE getting any ECU upgrade, do the full and complete "Stage 0" maintenence on your carOnce complete, then and only them should you consider an ECU upgrade
RussB
K&N Downpipe...what's a K&N downpipe?Do you mean the exhaust from K&R Motoring? If so, it's best to contact them directly to see what applications they can put together, they're just 2 guys putting a few systems together
rodrigo
BEFORE getting any ECU upgrade, do the full and complete "Stage 0" maintenence on your carOnce complete, then and only them should you consider an ECU upgradeI'll second that. However, when looking into the turbo hoses, I just got new OEM ones when did the ST upgrade on my 850 lpt. Since we have lpt's ( I have an XC as well), and the boost will reach 11 PSI max with the ST upgrade, I didnt think it was worth it to get the Silicone hoses since the lpt's chipped boost is almost arounf the stock T5 boost. I ran it for a while and didnt have any problems.BUT....now I have the XC and installed the Samco kit Joe offers....noticeable difference!! Boost is reached shightly quicker, and holds well (as in not as much fluctuation). Definately has a positive feel.My 0.02: if you can spare it, get the Silicone kits, but if you dont, just keep an eye on the hoses due to the added pressure. If you were ST'ing a T5 or an R, I would say definately get the hoses. Also, I like the OEM plugs gapped at 0.28" :)
XFORCE
What kind of silcone hoses I need in particular ? Also where can I get the K&n downpipe, I went to K&n website, but couldn't find it. So if I get the ecu upgrade, should I keep the factory volvo spark plugs, and re gap them? ( didn't have to gap them when I bought them a year ago) IPD and est rec iridium ngk plugs to prevent mis firing, what do you guys rec I should with the plugs ? I'm about to change the timing belt, idle, tensioner, and water pump, doing it a little earlier, not waiting for the 210k mark.
