Stage 0, I Know Which Parts...

yah, i will be needing the parts, but thus far i've only got like, one person's opinion on brands or what they have. hence im sort of undecided.

actually your thread has 193 views right now and unless 150 of them are from you, I think you have like, one forum's opinion on most of stage zero. I seem to recall member number is pretty high here.

So Bosch, Bougicord, Mann, Walbro, or can almost never go wrong with OEM. People aren't likely to post if it's already been said, and it has. Do a search, you will find it said hundreds of times more. Would that convince you?

I've been a proponent of this for awhile and have posted it evey chance I get, but no one seems to take me seriously:

ADD to STAGE-0, PCV SYSTEM REPLACEMENT.

Actually MIJ other people were been posting that a lot, back in the spring. But I agree and no one has said it yet on this thread so

+1

would that also be known as a crankcase vent hose? where did you get the parts to replace yours?

PCV system consists of oil trap and several pipes/hoses

there is a pinned thread for pcv replacement in turbo 850s

fcpgrotron.com sells a kit for the turbo cars, or you can buy parts individually. if you're doing it yourself then get an intake manifold gaskey in addition to the kit.

too bad i can't search the acro "pcv" otherwise i could find that real quick...

It's in the pinned thread section. In the middle of the page, here:

oh, under maintainance. thank you.

sorry about that, yeah, stage zero is maintenance

There is a pinned thread (top of Performance forum) that explains how to search, check it out.

So you can use one of those tricks to search three letter words (* or google direct or google via firefox pugin). Or you can just spell the whole word(s) for acronyms ("positive crankcase ventilation") that will get you a long way.

Alright I'll stop side-jacking your thread, hey at least I give you free bumps :D

at msdignition.com they have quite a few sets of spark wires, do i go with the 8.5mm super conductor wires?

and they have a bunch of different coils too...

IMHO, you don't need msd wires, it's $200 more that doesn't need to be spent.

I suggested that if you run a hotter coil (like the MSD Blaster), then better plug wires are needed. Oem Bougicord or Magnecor are fine for stock ignition. I've heard bad things about Bosch plug wires. The other wires mentioned (Kinsborne or whatever?) I don't think have been out long enough to be considered "proven" or just pretty.

I had ignition troubles with the MSD Blaster coil and Magnecor plug/coil leads. I don't know if its the helical wound wire, the material its made out of, the thickness of the wire or the thickness/type of insulation. But I had radio buzz and misfire issues. Also something that seemed to be cross firing that was unresolved by looming the plug leads. I meaured the resistance on the Magnecor wires and they were all over the place. The coil lead was especially bad.

I installed MSD Super Conductor 8.5 plug wires and coil lead and my ignition problems went completely away. I did not pay the retail price for a full set. Somebody on this board was making some sets maybe a year ago and I bought the plug leads from him. He used OEM boots at both ends and crimped it together himself. I measured the resistance before installing and they were all well within spec. Then, I bought a "MSD Superconductor plug lead repair kit" and fabricated my own coil lead using the oem boot at one end and MSD Blaster boot at the other. My total cost is like $110 or so. I'm not saying its necessary to assemble your wires in this fashion, this is just how mine came together. You can pay the retail price for an assembled kit, or make them yourself. Its up to you. But if your ignition is stock and your motor is not heavily modified its probably not necessary. Again, up to you.

I'm just sharing my experiences, trials and errors with everybody. Take it for what you will.

Oh and a note about the PCV system. I did mine at around 120k miles and it was completely clear, no obstructions at all. The hard line going to the inlet tube cracked very easily though, so it may not have been long for this world. The reason I overhauled mine was because I put in a catch-can and redesigned the plumbing for the PCV. I would say check your PCV if you have smoke out the dipstick or filler cap or are consuming lots of oil.
