Dyno Results

hi guys..

i went to the dyno yesterday. i will post the graph in a few hours as soon as i have it scanned.

i have a 3" downpipe and a custom superchip @ 17.5 psi and was expecting close to 240 whp.

the results were 222 fwhp (275 at the crank) and 225 fwtq (280 lb.ft at the crank) ...

now this wasn't a "load dyno" but it was probably the most reliable among the ones in istanbul. Therefore i was a little disappointed

however, a guy with a brand new renault megane sport (2.0 turbo) was there just before me and his car pushed only 208 hp at the crank although it is supposed to be 225 bhp crank from the factory. he was there to test it before chipping it, and his car was only at 4k miles yet.

so i'm hoping these results were quite conservative...

hi... actually they had a rather small fan. it didn't feel very strong.

and to be honest, the car was also not in its best condition. the service time for the air filter, spark plugs and the engine oil are really close. i checked the engine oil level before the test, and to my surprise, it was down to almost minimum level. but i went on with the test anyway...

so you're willing to risk your engine seizing just to see what it put outs...

well it wasn't below the minimum line and i also had 1 bottle of motor silk in the engine which i was pretty sure would protect my engine, that's why i went on... maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all.

but i did go and buy a liter of 0-40W and added it on today...

well i might want to upgrade to 19T like you, or at least maybe modify this 16T, like porting and polishing it and get a new chip and call it a day... as this car is a geartronic, i don't want to push the tranny too hard, in case it might break on me or something...

but then will come sway bars and 17" wheels... apart from that i'm thinking of some minor cosmetic work... but i'll have to wait for my year end bonus for all those i guess. <_<

Well no reason to be disappointed ! Mine had 278.7 hp EWG what are 285 hp Din 70020. Most guys i know here in Switz run 18-19 psi to reach 290 and more hp. Numbers are numbers but how the car performs on the street is somthing different.

I use my car everyday, 35 000 - 40 000 km a year. It's no problem to tune up a car to much hp but reliability is much more important to me. when i had 240 hp i was bored after one week, when i had 275 hp i was bored after a week. Now i have 285 and i'm still bored :lol:

Sit back, relax and enjoy your car ! intercooler and bigger turbo are the easiest way to get more power... but for my car it's too late. Sad but true

Edit: Torque is a bit low with 280 ft.lbs. = 380 NM. Mine has 295 ft.lbs. which are also not really very special <_<. But with the automatic transmission you can't tune it to much more. The best i saw here where 420 NM or so for an auto. Manuals should be 420 up to 480... :blink: with Chip, 16T, down pipe and exhaust !
