Fudge_Brownie
Supercharge or turbo charge? Why not both? Early boost with a lessened turbo lag!I know sometime in the 80's AUDI had a rally car with this kind of setup, and VW's is coming out with a car like that. Though that VW is aimed at a different kind of numbers, gas milage. Anyways, is it possible to just bolt on a centrifugal supercharger, and use a Y-pipe to feed it into the intercooler?I noticed that the VW's engine uses a way to switch between the two, at one point feeding boost from the supercharger into the turbo if I read correctly. I saw a custom Pontiac Grand Prix GTP somewhere around the web with a controller to toggle between the two as the engine sped up. Is this because the boost from the SC would also feed back down to the turbo and create a back preasure? In which case, why not put a pipe with an "in-line" preasure valve to let air only go from the TC to the intercooler and also forcing the air from the SC to the intercooler. A setup like this might not really jump power figures, but it would make for quite the nice power curve :D

Fudge_Brownie
With both wouldnt u need to strenghthen the block? like forged pistons, etc?Well same with puttin on any huge turbo.underlord: that mean NO-tronic? I'm not followin here. I know the ecu would need a re-tune afterwards and since it would be the first of it's kind, it would need to be custom done. Is the motronic ecu not capable of such activities? I would assume no matter what, its boost either way so it would handle it the same way it does with just a normal turbo application. Stea1thV
Well same with puttin on any huge turbo.Well ya I guess but dual charging...IDK somehow I think it would entail extra strengthening
thelostartof
google 'twincharged' it has been done before many times on all kinds of car s.. even a 16v volvo engine(redblock)40meg ... if someone else wants to rehost/mirror that would be nicehttp://www.hardcars.com/thepriestmike/Mant...a_fastdrive.wmv
Keaton85
How about twin turbos.... a smaller and a larger, one for higher and lower RPMs?
thelostartof
How about twin turbos.... a smaller and a larger, one for higher and lower RPMs?99% of the cars that come like that stock .... switch to a single turbo for power
lextildeath
WOW! What a gorgeous creation that is. That thing sounds so crazy. I say do it, but you see in the dyno that the exhaust manifold got red hot, so you must do something with cooling and back pressure. Cool sh!t though. google 'twincharged' it has been done before many times on all kinds of car s.. even a 16v volvo engine(redblock)40meg ... if someone else wants to rehost/mirror that would be nicehttp://www.hardcars.com/thepriestmike/Mant...a_fastdrive.wmv

ajhehr
This works well on big stuff like tractor pulls. but on small displacement It usually just makes allot of heat. IF you need a responsive engine then its a road race car and you dont need a lot of HP. if its a drag car then you dont need a lot of response but you do want big HP. You can do both BUT IN 99.999999% of all applications the math just doesnt make any sense. IMHO.

Cool sh!t though.uh ... the exhaust manifold getting that hot is 100000000000000% normal even on an open downpipe setup that is perfectly normal for things to glow like that under full throttleand a single well sized turbo on a properly tuned engine will make the same if not more power
viperman135
Good luck with the Dual charging thing. http://www.hilmersson-racing.com/ Thats the people that built that manta. More pics and video there.

Those old twincharged rally Audi beasts pushed so much power they were scary.I've seen a couple of twincharged hachi's and they don't make heaps of power but they do make power instantaneously which is great for drifting. Pretty cool, but I agree not worth the trouble on our cars. Think a 19t will bend rods? Not to mention controlling wheelspin. Rally Audis had the benefit of a sturdy AWD when they pulled it off. Stick with a ceramic ball bearing turbo idea.
