SkyWriter
Already done with nitrous and boost yes you can acheive some of the same short term effects. but as mentioned above it's a special purpose endurance solution to some of the drawbacks of turbocharging (lag, spool). for the consumer purposed car yes ostensibly a single large turbo is cheapest and simplest. if it deserves serious discussion, then all the alternatives should be considered.the 1993 twin turbo toyota supra had just such a setup a small fast spool, then swtiched over to a larger turbo.predictably, someone replaced it with a single large turbo, which netted a modest improvement.the setup was the 'improved' by utilizing a setup similar to the Volvo T6 but with two larger turbos. unfortunately the fact that the engines split exhaust airflow couldn't support the larger turbos doomed the project.clearly one must consider more factors than merely "lets stick bigger turbos" on to succeed where others fail. thelostartof
because it was the best overall performance, or the best legal one? some types of power adders are against the rules.if you have any info on twin charged rally audis i'd love to see it .. never heard of themand dude what the FOCK are you talking about the supras The MKIV Supra's twin turbos operated in sequential mode instead of the more common parallel mode. The sequential setup featured a pair of small, equally sized turbos, with ceramic blades for the domestic Japanese market and steel blades for export (USA, Europe) markets. At first, all of the exhaust is routed to the first turbine for reduced lag. This resulted in boost and enhanced torque as early as 1800 rpm. Approaching 4000 rpm, the exhaust is routed to the second turbine for a "pre-boost" mode, although none of the compressor output is used by the engine at this point. Approaching 4500 rpm, the second turbo's output is added to the intake air, and both turbos operate in parallel. Most cars which are advertised as "twin turbo" operate by having the two equally sized turbos constantly running in parallel; the turbos spool up at the same time. The sequential mode provides greater low-end response at the expense of increased complexity and cost.the turbos wer ethe same size not a small and largeafter trying to state something like that i lose almost all ability to trust anything you say unless you can back it upbud of mine owned a 500whp supra ... upgraded the stockers and lots of cam and exhaust
Fudge_Brownie
That red car is a work of beauty! So people are saying bigger turbo? what about a bigger turbo AND an SC?The what-if game is fun, and just to make things clear, this is just for some fun hypothetical discussion, i've got no money :-(Now how does that red car prevent boost from the SC going back into the TC? Does the SC "breathe" through the turbo?

550
I don't know, get the right turbo and your spool issues won't be too bad. Not to mention. There are plenty of cars that make good all around power with just one big turbo. Like was said before.I think it would be interesting in the (what if) department, but alot of work, and not really worth it IMO.
SpeedboxT-5
I have seen a twin charged drag Mini. It was pretty Darn fast. The owner told me that there is virtually no turbo lag. It pulls right from the get go.
550
Yeah they make kits for the mini though, so it isn't really tough.

Kind of ruins the whole thing actually i thought that was most interesting aspect thing about it; the dampeners popping through the hood.
