Man, I didn't take a single picture of my car at the show. It looks like no one else did either. Weird. Anybody got any pics of my car from the actual show?
I took two. Check the link that CJ has above. There are lots of show pictures in there.

Interesting to see what you guys think about judged events. They have their own personality. When you enter a judged event and you don't win, it feels like you just got told your baby is ugly. I know. I have lost lots and lots of judged events. Imagine how all those figure skaters and ribbon dancers feel...

My experience with judged car shows, as opposed to people's choice, is that generally in people's choice the red cars win. Or as my wife would say, the ones with the stuffed animals win. If a person (judge) really looks carefully at all of the cars in the field, there is some consistency and the "best" car usually wins. Best means the one that is visually the best. Judges can't look inside engines. They can only judge what they can see. Typically judged car shows evaluate cars on appearance, cleanliness and workmanship. As I looked at the cars in the 850 group, some of them were dirty, and some of the clean ones were not carefully detailed. That is going to hurt you in a judged event. The judge sometimes has little to go on in deciding which car should win. A little lack of clenliness in the engine compartment, or wear in the interior can be the deciding factor.

If you are going to do judged shows, you need to know how the game is played. I really liked Pras' car. I was surprised it didn't win something, but the competition was pretty tough. if you don't win there is no need to disparage the judge. In this case, the judges were knowledgable guys who did the best job they could.

Judging cars is a lot of work. It is hard to get good people to do it because they always end up taking stuff from somebody who didn't win and wants to cry about it. Personally, I like doing people's choice. It is easier for me because I just count the votes and don't have to take stuff from anybody. Fewer hurt feelings. But for a national meet it just isn't good enough. For Davis, people's choice is fine, but there needs to be a forum where people who are serious about restoration, detailing and workmanship can be judged against the competition.

Anyway... I'm very glad you guys came. It was good to have you there. Contratulations on winning so many awards. You brought some really great cars.

No crying from me. I was just pointing out the age difference :P . I know that it's tough to judge a car just by peaking at it for 5 minutes. I knew (we all knew) that Ben was going to take the awards, and that was obvious, I would have been surprised if ANYONE would have placed higher than his car. Either way, the show was alright for me, completely different kind of crowd than I am used to. It was definitely nice meeting Lee and a couple of VS members that I hadn't met, and it was nice seeing cars besides 850's for a change! My paint is just too tough to detail compared to the richer, darker blacks and reds out there, so understandably, it's hard to notice the paint quality. And I'll be the first to admit that my engine bay was NASTY, but that's what happens when you have to remove your lower splash guard, roll your fenders, and slice away the fender liner. Everything makes a home in there lol.

The only part of the meet that I didn't like PERSONALLY, is the entire "conference" and "banquety" feeling, but I guess that's the nature of the game when it's multiple days and in a land far far away.

Other than that,

I'm sure most of you VCOA people got this email from Lee. I thought I'd post it here cuz it's hilarious! We're on fire guys! Note the part in bold below lol. Lee, we love you man, but the banter will continue!

Hi,

I’m completely recovered! The national meet was really great. I’m sorry it wasn’t a bit warmer, but it could have been worse. South Tahoe got 6” of snow on Tuesday morning. We got away with it, but not by much! Next year, a warm place in the summer.

I’m attaching a complete record of the results of the Car Show judging and the autocross.

Photos of the meet are displayed on the following websites

http://justjulz.photosite.com/2006VCOAWestCoastMeet Julie’s site – Meet photographer

http://www.volvoguy.us Billy Tave’s site

Also we’ll soon have some up on the chapter website

www.goldengatevcoa.org and the national site www.vcoa.org use the galleries tab.

There is also a forum on Volvospeed about the meet with photos… It contains some banter and interesting language, but if that doesn’t bother you, here you go… http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/Vcoa-Nation...eet-t61161.html and this one http://members13.clubphoto.com/ralph630329...383/guest.phtml

For those of you who won or placed in the autocross, Dave Barton took some very nice action shots. Your plaque with photo will be mailed tomorrow.

For those of you who placed in the Car Show, but did not pick up your plaque at the awards banquet, your award is in the mail tomorrow, too.

Hope you had a good time at the meet! See you next year if not before.

Lee

this chubby dude with a yellow volvo showed up. we didn't really pay attention to it since it was completely stock.

the outcasts went on a drive while the older crowd stayed back and played bingo or something of that nature.....oh wait,

Come on Pras, be real. That chubby dude and a few of us stayed back to help a fellow member (Pat) out instead of abandoning him to go for a drive. Give him a little credit.

Glad to see there's some cool pic's up here though, and that Pat finally made it home again.

I think its cool that Doug and a couple others helped Pat out. But in all fairness everyone should have gone on the drive and let Pat ride shotgun. Its not like he made it home without problems anyway what would a couple of hours made a difference.

Pat, what happened to the squeeze burger? I thought you were going to show up...
