Timbo Slice
Almost took a Giant commuter (I forget the model) off my cousin's hands this weekend to use as a bar bike but I think I may do a moderate build on my old Specialized CrossRoads instead and use that. Time to hit eBay for parts!

What else do you suggest? It's intended use is to just ride in town and around the bars on the weekends. I was planning on converting it to single speed and just have a little fun with it. It'll be the first bike I build, and when all is said and done the only thing I'll use from the bike in it's current state is the frame. If you are just building a bar beater, no need to drop money on it. Does it get you from point A - B? Then it's job is done. But if you want to drop $$$$ on a carbon fiber bike take you to the bars, you can worry about it being stolen while you are getting your drink on... I've got a beater that I'm building too, only $$ I'm sinking into it is new tire, tubes and grips... Everything else I've got sitting on a shelf that's been waiting to get recyled. It's heavy and old as f*uck but I'll never have to worry about someone walking off with it when I'm in the store.
Mesoam
Look on CL find something cool make it your own. I found that old Stumpjumper M2 and made it into a great around town bike, which I am coincidentally selling to Ian anyway

Haha no I understand, it's going to be a bar/around town bike and normally I wouldn't put money into this sort of thing but I'm looking for a new project. With all you guys building up bikes and my cousin's involvement in what he's doing, I want to build a bike on my own for something to do. Down the road I may build up something more worthwhile like a hardtail but for my first build, and seeing as this bike is sitting in my spare bedroom collecting dust, and seeing as it would need a good tune up/misc. things here and there, I'm going to just use it to start. Look on CL find something cool make it your own. I found that old Stumpjumper M2 and made it into a great around town bike, which I am coincidentally selling to Ian anyway That bike is actually what got me interested in building a bike believe it or not I really liked what you did with it and have wanted to build a commuter ever since.
