matt b
CF is simply the current standard for decent road bikes. I like the ride of CF, forgiving, comfortable, nimble. Downsides, rattles, vibration, lack of reliable repair I'll never own another ALM bike again if I ever get another metal bike it will be Ti. Not true anymore. There's anything from the DIY kit with Youtube instructions to the full manufacturer service at a high premium. Personally: 2 visits to Calfee Designs in CA, I would trust them with any repair needed on my carbon frame. Remember the aluminum frames that would get junked after getting a bad ding on the top tube ? Short of buying Ti, most metals have the same risks as carbon when it comes to damage and the effects on resale value, etc...

matt b
Wasn't that trek u had repaired? Yes, still kicking as an in-town beater. There's Ruckus Composites here in Portland too. Yes, no experience with them but there are some good options out there.
Mesoam
do they match the weave when repaired? or is it patched like fiberglass? my bianchi is only clear coated and a patch repair would look like shit
matt b
do they match the weave when repaired? or is it patched like fiberglass? my bianchi is only clear coated and a patch repair would look like shit Most places will try to be as discreet as possible and will try to match the weave. The Trek was painted white and was returned to me painted perfectly. I've seen a lot of race bikes with patches on them. It's just a scar, most people don't care. flyfishing3
Being a man of manly proportions, I do not trust a full CF frame. I'm told they've come a long way on upper end stuff, but I'm not trusting. I'm not anti alum. My jamis is a great bike
andyb5
Mike, I know literally nothing about bikes, but if you could break a properly made CF bike frame, I'd be very impressed. Even a single layer of cheap 2k 2x2 twill CF with a basic epoxy resin is very strong stuff.
flyfishing3
245ish lbs, dropping some good wattage, It's actually because of road conditions here, constant pounding, plus torque, etc. the smallest defect is esserbated. Thus my saying only high end stuff I'd trust. There are very few wheel sets that are CF that will accept my weight . Most stop 190lbs. flyfishing3
Watch this crazy shit from the tour de Suisse the other day. This is why I'd never do a local crit. http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=13BENuYp19w

Even French amateur racing isn't that agressive. There's a reason they're pros.
Mesoam
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=13BENuYp19w i assure you, a local crit race would not be running that pace either way that's pretty nuts....now do it in TRAFFIC!!!!!
