Seeing as we have a ton of canals and bike paths here, I'm going to be selling the Tri/TT bike and am thinking about picking up a cyclocross. Any help would be very appreciated. Cannondale SuperX or CAADX - best bike I've ever owned The CAAD might be cantilever only, suits me fine but if discs is what you're looking for as per Travis I'd say SuperX If you're looking for something funky Felt, Ibis, BH and BMC all make compelling options
Timbo Slice
Yep disc brakes are a must. I've always loved Felt (current bike is a B16) so I'll explore those. Thanks for the assistance guys!
Timbo Slice
My cousin works at an LBS here in Roc, and mentioned the Giant TCX. Anyone have opinions? Price point is right on.

Timbo Slice
Yeah that's a great point. He was telling me about their aluminum and I was impressed with how light it was. I looked them up and apparently they're decently known for their light yet strong aluminum, which is always a good thing.
Dick Dastardly
Giant makes bikes for most major brands.. Half the bikes in shops are "Giants"
Mesoam
most light alm bikes are pretty harsh to ride, go carbon if you can
Burn-E
Picked this up today. 2007 Trek Madone 6.9 SSL all carbon that was upgraded with a newer Dura-Ace groupset and Race Lite wheels by a retired bike mechanic who dabbles in building bikes now. Weighs in at slightly less than 16 lbs. What do you guys recommend for pedals and shoes? I'm moving out of mountain biking so I'm new to the road game. matt b
Drop that stem and get your bars set up probably, you're riding a bike, not reading a book in a chair! Looks good! I recommend Speedplays since you can clip in from either side, the cleats are large and make it easy to clip in and out. Shoes: any good entry level Mavics or Shimano shoes are good for the money. If you're feeling rich, go buy some Sidi shoes with carbon soles. They'll last you years and will add bling to your rides. Side note, I had the precursor to your bike (I actually still have it), they're prone to cracking at the joints. I can send you pics of mine but basically, watch the areas where tubes meet. They're considered normal by Trek but they can be scary. I shelfed my bike after the second repair and re-spray from Calfee and switched to my current Scott. Still ride the Trek with the kids but the cracks get noticed by people (it's painted white which makes them even more obvious)
Burn-E
That's how it looked when I picked it up. Haven't had any time with it yet but it reminded me of the old flip bar look. We'll see where the stem winds up after I'm done fitting it. I know the rage is dropping it to the floor.
Mesoam
definitely get the bike fitted...If you're new to clipless pedals, MTB ones typically are a little easier to get into and will typically have entry points on both sides while road pedals typically only have one entry point.. Shimano's SPD system is the standard, I liked TIME pedals for a while but went back to Shimano
Burn-E
So I picked up a free set of SPDs and bought a set of Speedplays. I'm going to test out the Speedplays because my research shows they seem to be easier on the knees and I'm specifically getting back into biking as part of rehabilitation of a knee. If I don't like the Speedplays I'll shift to the SPDs.
Dick Dastardly
You have to give speedplays a chance. They're going to feel like riding on ice cubes at first. Give them a few rides
ruecatinat
I've never tried Speedplays on a road bike but use the Frogs for MTB/CX - if you're looking for an in-between they're a good option because they still have the float that makes them easy on the knees Used SPDs once, they're good but pressing down as opposed to sliding your foot into the pedal was hard for me to get used to Edited August 3, 2016 by ruecatinat
