I installed the trans from the bottom, no problems. I pulled the subframe out and supported the engine from the top. There was tons of room to work down there!

quicker to just leave it hanging...

Take it off, only one split pin.. ;)

true true... that takes time though... if you know the right angle its fine, just gets anoyying some times

Ok seems like a good place to ask this...

I want to buy a brand new(well factory rebuild) trans for my swap... the catch I need a vin # for a 95 manual car (m56h with speed sensor correct?) so the dealer can get the correct one. aint that a pita!

SO if anyone has a vin # i can borrow to order my trans I would be very grateful!!!

sorry i thought this was clear.

the only cars I have are automatic and the dealer needs to know the vin for the manual trans so i can get a "replacement". they can supposedly only order it if they have the vin.

this is what I have been told by 2 local dealers, If im wrong may I burn in hell but at least tell me where I can order a trans.

if you can find that service bulletin with pictures, it would be a good idea to throw it up on here to people can identify which flywheel they have. i know that the flywheels with the milled grooves require swaping, and the ones with drilled holes don't. pictures always help though :P

Always here to help:

And the part number that Slater's post mentions for the updated turbo flywheel is superceded by the part number that Pras gave originally so if you order that turbo flywheel it should be exactly the same as that updated flywheel part that slater posted.

so do I need to put the part number from the bulletin in my O.P. as the flywheel needed?

Nope Pras I think you're good. The flywheel part # you posted is the most up-to-date one and should be relevant for early model V70s as well.

Thanks for your efforts man. My only question is what the heck is the manual console bezel like for a 98 V70 AWD (or V70 in general) b/c the part number you provided is for the 850s.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update: I found the part number for the center console bezel for a 98 V70: There are a number of different colors available of course but the one that matches my interior and I imagine most normal interiors is called "plastic" and it's number is: 9192844

Cost of the part is in the realm of $45-50 new.
