volvorsport
hey johann ,we should bang heads - did you make that manifold or buy it off jenvey ?i think weve got the other one here - im building a NASP to ggo in my kitcar - redblock turbo was too brutal .weve sourced billet flywheels , the iTBs , cam shafts from catcams , were just working on heads at the moment .weve also decided that for road/rally use we can go to 2.5 and keep the revs down , or use a 2 litre crank and redblock conrods for about 9500rpm .im on the lookout for later heads with solid followers to convert earlier heads , BUT , they all seem to be VVT which has nacked the plan up .what HP do you think youll get to on std cams /head ? Johann
The manifold was made at our company.I posted about it here.If you have a Jenvey manifold I'm 99.5% positive it is for the newer style heads and uses different port shape. Johann
yes it is , but im building one with an earlier head like yours !i wanted to originally build it so i could use the solid followers - but obviously thats going to mean a later head , which i do have .Another question , did they enlarge to 32mm inlets ? cos i havent found one yet either .The valves you mean? They are all the same size from 92 all the way up to present day. Only difference in the diameter of the valve stem which changed from 7 mm to 6 mm in de newer VVT engine's.If you do not have cams now and have the manifold already then go for a new type head. The cams can't be used in both heads because they have a different placement of the axial bearing. If you special order cams you can revert back to non VVT and just block the oil provisioning on the cams cover.
volvorsport
thats interesting about the valve sizes - i have a manual indicating theyre 32mm for the later models .My VVT head though had hydraulic followers circa 2003What cams are you running ?how did you adjust the folllowers without the holes in the cam cover ! Johann
Valves are 31 intake, 27 exhaust. later VVT isn't hydro as far as I'm aware, only very early '99 VVT heads had hydro lifters (Followers). For adjustment there is a special tool from Volvo which can be used to fix the cams.
