Exactly like Slater said in the PS thread?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> For now all lines have been removed. I still want to make a small breather box, let de lines run to it and hope it will work that way. Johann, I realize this is a pretty old blog... any chance you can still tell me where you got the front splitter for this beast? my proj is a '94 854 5spd and I've been looking for a splitter like the one you have on the SDM for a while and haven't found anything as nice as you've got. your car looks and sounds amazing. your 850 is my 850's role model. Friggin' awesome build.
Johann
I don't know if it is still available. Supplier is mentioned in this post, Edit: Realcar is still offering the splitter here.
Johann
Because people were asking, SDM engine spec, Block, B5244T3 block, crankshaft and rods (147 mm) All bearings used are turbo spec. Block machined 0.3 mm below OEM deck height, 0.4 mm overbore. B5244S 0.4 oversize Volvo OEM (Mahle) pistons and OEM piston rings. 21 mm diameter piston pin. B5244T3 head gasket was used. With CC'd head the compression came down to 11:1 Head, Very early 1992 B5254S head. Head has been converted to to 2001 type valves with the 6 mm valve stem. Slightly shortened valve guides to prevent binding on the valve seals. Solid valve lifter buckets instead of hydraulic with shorted stems using under-bucket shims for adjustment. Oil feed channels for hydro lifters have been blocked, Head machined near lifters to clear the cam lobes, Catcams double valve springs and custom retainers, Catcams steel cams 12.5 mm lift, duration undisclosed. Ports were only smoothened near the valve seats and intake ports were port matched to the intake bridge, Slightly lightened flywheel and 850R clutch kit are used. ITB setup, Jenvey SF45/1 throttle bodies, Intake bridge, Homebrew CNC machined, Port matched 3 mm base plate for the airbox was added, 90 mm stacks and some connections for idle regulation although not used at the moment, IAT sensor and for vacuum. Vacuum taken from each runner connected to a small canister to smoothen the vacuum erratic behavior. Although the EMS is operating in Alpha N mode it does use MAP for baro corrections. Airbox mainly shaped to available space with a repositioned radiator. Intake opening is near 95 mm. Jenvey throttle linkages were used in combination with the OEM Volvo throttle roller. Slightly altered OEM fuel rail with a firewall mounted pressure regulator operating at 58 psi. 395 CC injectors used. Walbro 255 lph in tank fuelpump New style thermostat housing was used with an extension to clear No.1 runner and TB. Exhaust, OEM NA exhaust manifold slightly ported, 2.5" exhaust, 100 CPI Kemira race cat and 2.5" Ferrita turbo catback. EMS, Linkplus G2 standalone, Sequential fuel and distributer ignition. lookforjoe
Impressive! What is the significance of the '92 head? I'm assuming it has some additional potential that makes it worth updating to newer style valves etc.., rather than just getting a newer head? Johann
Impressive! What is the significance of the '92 head? I'm assuming it has some additional potential that makes it worth updating to newer style valves etc.., rather than just getting a newer head? The idea was to use an 850 NA as a base and those cars come with the square port heads. The intake bridge was fabricated to fit this type of head. After the first engine broke I only wanted a somewhat stronger block but all other was basically OK. The choice for the high lift cams was mainly for sound but for this to happen we needed to convert to solid lifter bucket. Also a standard valve guide plus seal setup will bind near 11 mm lift so they needed a change anyway.
