Ipd Disappointment - Tubing Kit?!

I know the boost gauge has been a topic discussed here many times. I have the install guide provided by VS which is really nice. My thing is I ordered a VDO gauge and tubing kit from IPD. The gauge is fine I probably will change later in life but the tubing kit they provided really sucks. I am not even sure what it is. It is made by ISSPRO and it is 6ft of super super skinny tubing and some gold color nuts. I do not see a "T" or anything described in the VS forum. Should I return the stupid kit? Can I use a silicone vac line or something? Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey man, I just had the same problem. I called and they said that the kit works, but i cant find any way to do it. I went to Autozone and bought a T-split but have yet to find what is in the directions as a 1/8 HBT Nipple? or something, I have gone to numerous stores and they dont have them. Using the vacumn lines will work the same its just finding the right hose to go off of and finding that damn part.

Well WTF... So how the hell am I supposed to install this thing? Are all boost gauges like the VDO? IPD sucks! I think I am going to return their stupid gauge and get a kit that actually works.

IM going to keep the gauge, but yea the tubing kit blows. All mechanical boost gauges work on the same premise.

It is not their fault that you do not have a clue of what you are doing. Just tap off of the vaccum tree, the tubing kit includes what you need to do so, if not, go to a auto parts supplier and find the 50 cents more of tubing that you need.

Wow... the six feet of tubing is supplied so that you can hook it directly to the vacuum tree by the throttle body. This is actually the correct way, a lot of people however chose the easy way out and just T it into the stock boost gauge. This can lead to problems, but works fine most of the time, before you smash a company you should do your research as I am sure this has been talked about.

That thin tubing is plastic right? and white in colour? You need to use compression fittings to make it work - about $3 at ACE Hardware or something (I think it is 1/8" size). I had to replace my compression ring when the tube cracked (it is not as ideal as silicone as it gets harder with the heat and has a short life span it seems). That kit will work and they probably gave you the right stuff but left out the T-fitting - you got any pics of the kit? I'll get a photo of mine Friday when I have the day off. My boost gauge is tapped into the return line from the CBV to the intake. That vacuum tree idea seems like a good idea for the 850s though.

First off the kit is cheap so anyone who posted here saying how great it is you are a fool its made out of super cheap material and no instructions what so ever. If you can tap into the VAC tree you would have to modify one of the nipples off the Vac tree to thread the cheap plastic to it. I have yet to figure out how to connect it to the VDO gauge itself the fittings are super loose and the plastic tube is so cheap it feels like it will crack after a month of use. I love IPD and their mods but this is a super cheap way to throw out a crappy product. I know a lack of Quality Assurance when I see one.

oh and one more thing I checked around on the net this kit is actually made for oil pressure not boost. They are using a cheap oil pressure tube kit and passing it off as their boost gauge tube kit.

It is made for oil pressure so there fore the flow is not as good. I contacted the manufacturer ISSPRO themselves (What IPD Sent) They told me directly that the oil tubing kit item number R7110 is not meant for boost pressure. In theory it could work but it is not an out of the box solution. He recommended I purchase a new kit. I am sending everything back to IPD and going with an Autometer kit.

The reason I am mostly mad is I asked IPD to bill and send everything I need to hook up the gauge they met me half way on that request. It is not rocket science installing a gauge with the right kit.

Even with out the right kit it isn't rocket science. You are not the only one to install a boost gauge in thier car. Most of the people on this board have the kit plumbed the same exact way. There is no designation for boost and oil pressure, oil pressure sits higher. Granted a thicker diamtere tube is better for boost supposedly for accuracy, you are not running enough boost to actually make it that worth while.

Hook it up properly and that is really all that matters.
