Che'_Moderator
As some of you know there have been rumors that the silver Evolve car owned by Matt Powers met an untimely end. Sadly these rumors are true and the car is currently in pieces. Hopefully like Lazareth the S60 will rise again. As with any other cloud this one too has a silver lining. Through this engine and tuner we can hopefully all learn more about the limits of our cars and how to safely push them. For those of you not familiar with this vehicle I urge you to first do some basic research either here on on the web about it. This S60 was recently featured in Motortrend. Using bolt on parts Evolve was able to push this car all the way to 362hp. What happened next is what should interest all of you. The 2.5L block is somewhat prone to crack the sleeves when pushed. As with most engine failures this is a product of tuning. Engines fail due to tuning. Whether it is incorrect tuning, poor tuning, or simply pushing them too hard. At this point no one can say what caused the Evlove engine to suffer the cracked sleeves. In the end its just a causality of tuning which will help us all push our cars further. With that we have some images of the engine in its current state. For anyone doubting this is in fact the Evolve car:I have contacted Don at Evolve with the hopes that we can all learn more about this specific engine. Should we all be worried about even bolt on parts? Was this an isolated event? Is something else the cause? Hopefully as time goes by we can learn from this. What we must remember is we do not have all the facts. Even though you may be tempted you should only discuss fact and not rumor and speculation. javadoc
That's too bad. Didn't you say at a different time that the sleeves on the 2.5L engines would squirm at like 7000 or 8000 RPM, Chuck?

BOOSTED S60R
wow same thing that happen to mine. At the exact same hp level except mine was on the stock trubo. 362whp and mine cracked the of the cyl walls. The guy building my engine said it was from the cyl getting too hot and expanding the cyl walls. so my new motor will have alot better tolerance between the piston and the cyl walls. Spoony
Is it truly Evolves fault or are they just a scape goat? If they are responsible, did they agree to fix it?
