This is the scoop on HIDs. It is illegal to use HIDs in a car on the public roads if the car did not come with them from the factory. Aftermarket HIDs are ILLEGAL for public road use. However, D2S/D2R kits are LEGAL to use on the public roads as they are HID specific bulb types and if the car requires that bulb type it is assumed the lights are designed specifically for HIDs. That said the lights would need to be DOT approved for use on public roads. It is LEGAL to sell HID kits in the United States.

That being said it is always a good idea to have your lights aimed correctly as to not blind or glare into oncoming traffic.

Its a 2001 C320 Sedan, the low beams are h7 50w and the low beams are 9006 55w i believe. Ill double check the wattage on those but im fairly sure thats the numbers. Also there is a crappy jerk spring retainer clip thing that prevents most aftermarket setups from working and i have heard of the flicker thing but never seen it myself but have the the codes it throws.

from what i know there is only one confirmed kit (from someone who has tried it i know of) that really is plug and play sold off ebay for w203 car but is very expensive compared to your kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-MTEC-HI...emZ250080317592

Here is a pic of the connectors to the bulbs.

BTW, when you installed the cheap ballasts, did you install using the relay harness? My technician told me that even the $95 kit in my online store will work on some Benz without any problem if you install using the power cables included in our kits instead of relay harness.

We can get 12000k but it is not recommended. The higher the kelvin, the lower the light output. And 4300k is the color that cars with factory HID use.

but honestly who wants to do factory application stuff, I tend to stay away from factory stuff, go against the general populations general perception of what looks good and doesnt, Ill be in touch

People go two ways when they install HID: make it brighter, or make it fancier :) Its just a personal preference. Our recommendation is based on driving safety: the brigher, the better :)

I have said that. But also with that said I installed the first set aftermarket in 1999 before even many OEM cars had them. Grated this was also pre-ban as many places like HIDs4Less used to sell them. Now you can get DOT kids but they are the exact same thing just submitted for DOT approval. And you get raped on the price. The only reason I went DOT approved on the truck is because it gets a DOT inspected like every month and the last thing I need is to be curbed because of a stupid DOT infraction. As for telling the cop they are OEM gets your LEOs some credit. If they want to bust your chops for it they can. Do the HOVA lights have DOT stamped on them? RE HIDs they can just check the backs and confirm they are aftermarket. IF that bothers you go back and read the laws again. Not just HIDs but any modifications to a factory headlight are illegal.

this is the instructions for installing aftermarket hids without the new spring retainer package. (this isnt mine, it off another board and is for the C-class W203 & you need in this case to get the dealer to charge the software to tell the car it has hids so you dont get bulb out messages)

1. Remove the 2 H7 bulb connectors, and the H7 bulbs from the light assembly by unsnapping the two sides of the holding spring clips. Completely removing the optics from the vehicle may aid in easier assembly, but if care is taken, this is not necessary.

2. Next, install the 2 new HID bulbs in the same manner as you removed the OEM Halogen bulbs. The HID bulbs have a 2 semi-circular cutouts which will provide clearance for the spring clips. The spring clip may need to be slightly bent to fit the new bulb. The rear tabs should be bent up and out. This will take some experimentation in order to achieve a proper fit. Care must be taken in this process to avoid breaking the retainer hardware.

3. After the bulbs are installed, the HID connectors are ready to be attached. Be sure to securely join the connectors, as you will hear and feel a "snap" when you have attached them correctly.

4. Your vehicle is equipped with a 2 wire adaptor, the positive wire is labeled with a red tab. Take the red end of the ballast connector and insert the push pin into the wire connector of your factory wiring harness, assuring proper polarity. Next attach the black ground wire in the same fashion. Test the system, if the lights don't turn on, reverse the polarity and try.

5. The ballasts comes (their bad English, not mine) with a very sturdy Velcro attachment. Find a flat place to mount the ballast, adjacent to the optic assembly such as the fender well. Clean the surface well, and locate the ballasts at the selected attachment spot. The headlight fuse may need to be upgraded to a heavier 15a fuse. Please take note that you should always re-aim your headlights after installation. Provided in this booklet is the proper instruction on how to aim your headlights.

steps 1 - 5...

Below is the installation instruction for my kits. And i think except for the spring clip part, it exactly the same as the steps you posted.

And attached is an aiming guide that people who installed HID may find useful.

Doubt there is. Its just a lot of kits have the insulation removed. Its the same wires. These stuff should be loomed or taped up anyways. I would be more worried about the ballasts. Johns and these kits are probably the same parts relabeled. Not like there are thousands or people making this stuff

Chuck this is incorrect. This person's kit and my Economy kit are not the same in the slightest. They may use similar casings but the internals are far different. Same goes with the Apexcone kit. If you are interested in the facts PM me before you make statements like this about your vendors on this site - there is a reason my kits cost more. I have a US supplier. All of the product I buy is from within the US.
