RussB
easy enough, grab on to it and try to wiggle it. the rest will become obvious
Mesoam
personally never had them loose enough to make noiseto test you can disconnect the links (just take them off) and take a quick ride on a bumpy road...clunk gone = bad links
MrLorence
I own the Slaters, so if they were bad then I think I will the equivalent to the Lotto or something...
RussB
When we did the Boston Volvo GTG, my Slater links had some play in them. The tech confirmed this. I can hear a clicking/knocking sound when going over bumps. There appears to some "loosness" in the lower heim joints on one of them, where the socket fits into the eye. These links are about ~8 months old....this reminds me, I need to contact Slater.

rp850
I have slater's links but no noises. I don't know if this helps but I made sure the locking adjustment nuts were super tight. I actually put the links in a vice and then tightened them down before I installed them.I've had popping noises in the past but I've always been able to fix it by tightening the control arm bolts at the subframe. The almost seem to loosen up over time. Last thing that might sound crazy but was my exact problem was the metal bracket that holds the drivers side knee bolster. That was clanking against another piece of metal in the cabin up by the firewall. I could have sworn that noise was coming from the end links but it was that bracket inside the car. Drove me nuts until I figured that out.Shat, So what can be done?? Im going to just check them out and see if they can be tightened..its done it since day one.... steve s
slater's hasn't been loose.my old vms links would come loose more easily.. the bolts would not stay tight, the nylon threads i guess had worn out.it sounds like clunky noise coming from the front whenever u hit bumps or turn. sounds really really annoying. rp850
It runs behind the lower part of the dash sort of behind the radio and A/C ducts. This thread I posted a while back explains it in more detail:http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...st&p=795161Where the hell is that? MrLorence
I'll just have to check the specs and report back this weekend..the weird thing is the sound comes and goes..like for days..
MrLorence
I've noticed that the sound also, is only there when Im straight..Which leads me to believe that if the links are loose when you turn since they move with the strut they tighten up and the noise isnt heard..this tuesday for sure Im going to check the specs and get to the bottom of it..
