Che'_Moderator
It looks like Nascar got caught with its hand in the cookie jar! With the upcoming Daytona 500 race just days away and several teams being penalized for cheating, what does this say about this sport? Frankly, being fined and penalized points is not enough to dissuade other teams from continuing this practice of cheating. It is odd that multiple news sources state that cheating in Nascar is somewhat endemic, but that this particular infraction is especially bad, since it involves cheating by tampering with the fuel. In my mind this is a like being a little pregnant? You either are or are not, there is no middle ground. Cheating is cheating! If you really want to curtail this type of transgression then the sport needs to lower the boom on the racing teams that are caught, not just slap them on their hands, wink wink, and then go about business as usual. At a minimum the team should be penalized by not being allowed to race in not only the current race but at least one other event. The potential loss in revenue from sponsorships and stigma of being labeled a cheater should be a better deterrent. In the future Nascar should be sending a strong message that it will not tolerate cheating in any manner. Then again, it is not about the sportsmanship anymore, just about making lots of money from all of the concessions, licensing and sponsors. I guess you get what you pay for, and if this is the entertainment that you seek, you shouldn’t be surprised when teams try and cut corners to get ahead at all costs. Do you honestly think they do it just to claim they are faster? Or do they do it because behind the scenes million dollar sponsors threaten to pull funds if they do not produce? I swear once everyone I know is done with racing I am writing a book.

I swear once everyone I know is done with racing I am writing a book.I am with you Chuck. But I disagree with #4 because I live here in Florida... I have seen much worse than the 500. If your not gonna enforce the damn rules get rid of em! You know half those rednecks will never follow rules, no matter what you do, so just kick them out. Suck it up and maybe you'll get a fan following thats not mindless!

When you sponsor a team for a campaign you know what they are doing. They submit marketing strategies, tam strategies, and so much other info long before a sponsor signs on. Beyond that I am appalled to see the damn driver acting shocked.

Volvo Virgin
No offense, but this is a slanted rant about a sport that is generally unpopular in the VS majority, and mostly what I see is a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. You guys can go round and round with your "Nascar is ruining the world" rhetoric....but the bottom line is wherever you find rules you find some people trying to find a way around those rules. To try and attach that to only Nascar in the racing world or in the sports/entertainment world as a whole is total bupkiss. If you don't like Nascar that's fine by me.Just be honest enough to just say it and not try to shluff it on on some BS excuse. But I think I speak for most everyone when I say that noone likes to see cheating anywhere.
