Andru365
Can the diff from a M59 be put into a M56?
Geevs
i have to agree, it does look like a open diff. but it drove like it had a LSD.With the tires off the ground (jacked up), do both tires in spin the same direction when you turn one side? drin850
actualy i would love to check that but the transmission is out and the axels are off.....a little update......i got a new transmission which is supposed to be a m56, but for some reason, the axel that i have on the car, doesnt fit into the transmission, its too big for the hole.now, how do i know if its a m56 for sure? i thought it would bolt up directly.so now i either i get a new axel to match the new tranmission or i take half of the transmission case with the diff from the old one, and put it on the new transmission i bought. Andru365
i take half of the transmission case with the diff from the old one, and put it on the new transmission i bought. If this is possible, do this. The fact that your car came with a factory LSD makes it extremely rare, so try and keep it in there if you can.
drin850
the VIN number from the transmission has 55 in it, which if i remember correctly, that means its from a NA or GLT?!!? would it be able to handle the power from the T5 engine? is that why the axel doesnt fit into the transmission? Andru365
He has a Canadian spec. 5 speed 850R. Comes with the M59 stock. It would be a shame to lose it, but M59s are hard to source, I've called eveywhere in Ontario. It would be cool if you could somehow get the diff out of your M59 and shoe-horn it into a M56, but I don't know if that is even possible. drin850
i do really want to do that but i still have to find a transmission. The one i have now is from a NA and im scared it wont be able to handle the power from the R. so my search continues for a 5 speed from a Turbo
Andru365
If I remember right, a lot of people on here have done 5spd swaps from an NA car (the only 850 to get a manual tranny in the US) into their auto T5s/Rs without issues. The question is, is the NA 5spd tranny in the US an M56? drin850
hhmm.....i remember seeing a member here with a 5spd swap, gonna try and find him and send him a pm.I wanna know for sure that i can use that transmission. I dont wanna swap it and a few months down the road it breaks again. And if i change the diff inside, it voids the warranty for the transmission so i wanna be 100% sure before i do it. bmcintyre
Everything I've ever seen about the swap refers to M56 so I'm pretty sure that's what da tru playas use.
