gdizzle
good to know, I haven't baught any rods, I'm not planning to unless I decide to up the boost, I'm looking for 300whp, with a 1bar spring on my tial 38mm. I'll be getting a top notch tune by one of the best tuners in my area, and will be running 94 octane only. The suply is close to my house and easy to find around town... I think that will be enough to ensure my rods do not bend, everyone I have spoken to who has bent there rods with a b5234 in the 300whp ballpark seem to have bent them becose of poore or lack of tuning, including you and black T5, I rest my case. The Honda and VW crowd have been getting tunes for there mild to wild hp cars for years now, and only in the volvo crowd do we see people running manuel boost controlers without remaps on there expensive engines... this fact bottles my mind to this day, lollReally, I'm very active on VW forums and I see them do it all the time.. On another note, tunes are much cheaper for those cars than they are for any volvo. Also, how do you bottle your mind? One other note, peopel have discovered the limitations of the honda and vw engines long ago, the volvo scene is just now catching up. i should say FWD volvo scene, the RWD volvo scene got all their info in the womb! HIOOO!

HIOOO!LOL, youre right, as a matter of a fact, one of my good friends, who you have seen pictures of his car ( the red mkIII gti vr6 golf slammed on black rims) installed a vortech V2 on his stock block with a 12psi pulley, and baught a cheap chip for it instead of tuning it, and blew up cylinder number 6 in no time, maybe a week or so... For pricing, depending on what you get isen't that much more expensive, I'm thinking a honda or vw guy who gets an AEM EMS for 1000$ and gets it tuned for 700$ ends up paying much more than I will. The tuner who will be doing my car will burn a custom chip and install it in my stock ECU for 800$...on another note: mind bottling, sounds funny, loll

matt b
Don't know if I'm looking at the before or after picture, but how safe is it to re-use a damage crank ? Oh, and you're missing a piston in the first pic...:monkey:

Oh, and you're missing a piston in the first pic...depends on the damage. As for the missing piston.. duh. These are all before pics. Tore the block down this weekend, parts go to the machinest this week, still waiting on valve seals though.this is the number two rod journal on the crank, #2 rod was the bent one.. No visable damage. 1

gdizzle
took my parts to the machinist today, found out he couldn't touch them for a month after discussing everything w/ him.. So, found another shop that could do it in a week, dropping the parts off to them tomorrow. Hope to have the car back together soon! :)
matt b
Good stuff, what pistons did you end up buying ?
gdizzle
Good stuff, what pistons did you end up buying ?Depends on what can be done about the cylinders. It's going to be damn near impossible to hone them out to D spec tolerances so I'll probably be buying OS1 pistons.
550
Wow, your crank scrap is worst than mine :-\I know we are balancing mine out... so hopefully there are no issues, mine was actually pretty minor, as was my bend thank god. I think mine was plain old detonation I got ten dollars says your engine is done before mine Also are you getting the head done at all? I'm having the rotating assy balanced, cylinders honed, deck trued, valve job, etc. I should everything back together next weekend provided the machine shop comes through. 550
Like I said... yours will be done before mine hahaI did get head work though 3 angle and a P&P. Should have done pistons too... but didnt think it would take this long :-\Maybe in the future. I did want to lower the CR a little bit, and get some better pistons in there... money also doesn't allow for it :-\
