Che'_Moderator
Don't listen to notyourspoon, his opinion do not count I agreed, VS do have a lot of features and support for the forum. Although branching out to P2 platform is one place can be improving.Yeah I'm sorry the 6 figure S60 is not enough. I guess I should go buy one of each volvo out of pocket to do my part

Spoony
So you don't want cash?To tell you the truth, no. My opinion is that the prize should be car based considering the genre of the forum. Maybe our mods are more then 20-50 dollars but a gift certificate would be more incentive to upgrade the car. Thus it remains car based. But what do I know- my opinion doesn't count as long as people think they have a shot at "easy" cash.
paulr
I like the tentative awards categories, but perhaps there are other options? I know most of the admins / mods do it because the like it, but perhaps something for some of them? It seems they're usually ignored unless something goes wrong and then they catch people's stuff (I know I'm guilty of this). Your awards seem to be based on who "gives back" the most to VS, and I think that for the most part, the admins / mods do that.Other options might be "most innovative mod", "best looking car - on the cheap" or other things that would generate interest and perhaps positive competition. I'm somewhat disinterested in the new user idea, as most new users are existing car / forum people, or n00bs and therefore useless. It might be exploited, and I'm not sure what it will do to gain / keep members. But, it's your site so it's your call, it's cool you're doing anything whatsoever. Also, perhaps not cash, but the person's choice in car parts, say whatever vendors offer up, or from a list or something? and do it every couple months for more $$? I know it might be more headache but hey, just an idea. I only bring this up because while to me, $20 would mean little, and to many people on here it would mean absolutely nothing - a set of plugs and wires, a MBC, some decent component speakers, or some other equivalent car parts might be of use. This is especially true for the husbands with the "You can't go spending $$$ on the car" wives, or the high schoolers (also in a similar predicament).Either way, it's a great idea, and props for thinking of doing it. They are free to chime here or in private and it will not be held against them. As for vendors I would leave them out of this. As of this date none of the major ones have stepped up and I do not want them to have to. The smaller ones are priceless, but cannot be expected to bear a burden that large. The great thing about the way it is now is that we are pretty free to do what we want :P

paulr
Hey it was just an idea, hell, you could let the recipient chose: "MBC, stock rotors, 5 quarts of oil, or $45 in paypal".Nothing's perfect, and something will always be better for someone and worse for someone else. I think you're doing more than enough just with the idea, so if you think cash will make the most people happy, and it's easiest for you, then great. It's kinda petty I'm / we're bitching over how you give out free stuff .
scandalo
Word for word I wrote that in the chat tonight when asked why not gift certsEveryone has to argue any good idea. Why?Chuckie dude has a great idea. Let him run with it. He is going to anyway. And if not a huge argument will ensue.Do it. Che. Seriously. Incentives on building the best Volvo around? It is so mad its genius. And it will draw in more quality members...!!! Edited March 18, 2007 by scandalo
Spoony
Everyone has to argue any good idea. Why?I'm not arguing. I'm merely suggesting my perspective on free items on a volvo-based web site. In the end, it is Chucks decision but there is nothing wrong with stating my opinion (which was also brought up int chat tonight).
