I would like to state, I love this site. I never dreamed that I would actually meet people who thought of volvos having potential. I didn't think that a meet would work in this area, but I did one anyway, back in 2005. Now Chase has taken over the "NC Crew" and I make it to meets when I can.

I have met many people who have volvos and have visited volvospeed, but never stayed. Usually the reason was "I didn't like it because everyone just said 'search' to me!". With that said, I've tried to find anything to help the new member, welcome them to the site, and I also tend to get a little mad at the people who say "search!" I would say, to everyone, that they should really just try to help out the new members, make them feel wanted, since they are(as Chuck said).

----

Publicity: As far as getting our name out there, there are PLENTY of volvo drivers, if even 5% of those people liked cars, which I'm sure they do, there is a huge potential to having a good community base here at volvospeed. Let me just remind you of the old people who don't post anymore...

Chuck,

I have been here some time, I am just not a serial poster...

Your message board has some pretty good strength in numbers, at 20,000 members you are catching maybe 1.5% of the total number of cars sold by Volvo between 1990 and now, not counting repetitions like me (between me and my brother we have 6 1990 and newer). But a lot of the members also work as "connectors", people come to ask questions to them and such, you may be reaching a good 5% of cars on the ground.

I am miffed as to why dealers and repair shops wouldn't want to buy into your portal. You may be using Google's software (or not) and a dealer or shop could target people based on the profile for cents per view... much better than mass mailings.

The other thing is that you may have to target the post 99 crowd by changing the classes and have a better breakdown, call it a "lazy" approach, but if I spent many $$ on a car maybe I want to talk to people that have the same type of car and specific stuff. I almost never look for the S40 stuff, one reason is that it is under warranty and I just let my wife deal with the dealer, but it's also a crowded field... pre 99 is 850 and S/V70, post 99, you know how it goes. I am not advocating you do it like others, but I just couldn't squeeze the noodle enough tonight to give you a breakdown too..

Thanks for running this site.

Dan

Hands down the best thing about the topic is seeing new names posting that are usually just in one forum. Its also good to know you guys at least skim the news forum.

I've always looked at the news forum and figured others did as well. I just thought that people never responded to the threads. I also think the newsbot (which was a pain in the ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD) kind of turned people away and they never realized that you took it away. I always found this thread as important and informative most of the time.

I think I might actually enjoy this forum the most of all other because it has the least pointless threads in it (in my opinion of course).

I don't know why some of you guys are complaining about having to pay for For Sale or the R forum. If you take the time to make a decent how-to or write-up about something, you will get a free membership. Any able bodied person should not be complaining about being forced to pay.

OK i havent been on the forum very long, and i will admit to have had my fair share of pointless posts in the past, but i am very greatful for the presence of this site. Before i found it, i had no idea that anybody really wanted to mod a volvo as i had thought of doing. I have learned a ton from the site, mostly on performance and tuning, and it has saved my butt more than once. It is also nice to see a volvo fan base in the area like jackson stated a couple posts up. Thanks for the site guys, im not really in the place to comment on has the site gotten worse or better, i simply havent been here long enough. The only thing i can realy second on is the pointless topics that seem to be coming up alot lately, an entire thread just for teaser pics really gets to me also, it just seems like a huge waste of space.

But again, thanks for the site, i have found this place to be my home for volvo advise and modifications.

I know at least for myself, the for sale section is what keeps bringing me back to VS. I haven't found a whole pile of valuable info for performance beyond which bolt-on to choose, and nobody makes anything for the level of performance I'm shooting for. The marketplace, on the other hand, is useful to enthusiasts with all levels of goals and knowledge. Unless there's a "fabrication" subsection that I haven't found?

I suppose I could post up my howto on the 240 heater core chainsaw swap. That'll freak out a few of you folks. :D

You haven't seen the R-forum yet. Your chain saw swap won't freak out anybody compared to what my eyes have seen in that place.
