I think it's kind of stupid just because it was their version of the m-series. However, volvo's main problem is their lack of an identity. Why not preach the safety tag line throughout the models and reduce the production of the r line if demand isn't meeting up?

In a twisted way though, I like the fact that the R model hasn't caught on like volvo hoped. It keeps the car unique and not an over saturated performance car seen all over the place. So, eventually if I get around to buying one it'll be a significant purchase for me instead of just getting another m3/5, amg, etc.

Well... IMO if ford could catch up with DaimlerChrysler in terms of rear wheel drive technology ( i.e. traction control, stability control, etc ) then theres a chance for rwd to enter the market again in a few years which creates a platform for volvo to use as a sports model. They'll NEVER let a mustang underpin a volvo, just due to exclusivity.

damn and i thought chrysler sucked the big one... ford and dcx need to get their heads out of their asses.

they dropped the 850R in 97 because they dropped the 850... They had the V70R and the S70R in 1998...

yeah, but there was a time between 01-03 when they didn't make any R's....at least in the US market....they will be back ;)

So hopefully there'll be "R"s with turbocharged V8 engines. ;)

In Germany there is a big discussion right now about new car taxes according to the car's gas consumption. So nobody is really missing big and strong cars. If that's gonna happen, the existing "R"s will be really unique in near future...
