Any reason why it'd be great if BMW was the buyer?

Wouldn't they focus more on saftey with the company and cut the performance lines like Ford was doing?

They would not let Volvo compete with their flagship cars so throw away your M5 powered S80 dreams. Volvo would be the bastard stepchild economy car. Owned by Kia or Haundai on the other hand they would be the upper level trim line. Renault could go either way.

No.

...and ford wasnt cutting the perfomance lines. All of their models were generally fast, they made T5-M models possible to find, and they put 300hp and a 6-speed in the R models.

for some strange reason I prefer five speeds.

Maybe I'm wierd. And maybe it's cause five is what I'm used to give me a six and I go wtf?!?! what is this extra gear??? this isn't reverse!!! (no, actually, I haven't done that...don't worry)

So I was right with my generalized assumption that BMW buying Volvo wouldn't be great. So who knows why everyone here is hoping for BMW. And a M5 powered S80 dream is just retarded. Buy the M5 at that point.

No.

Someone shout if I'm wrong, but didn't they just annouce that they slashed the R line? And instead, will offer an R-look as a package, but without the power?

And sure they had a 300hp car... with just a hair more WHP than a T5M :) AWD Drivetrain loss FTL

N00b!

I started with 4 speeds, and I have driven 3! Never driven a 6 speed, at least in a car.

On topic: It looks like we will have to wait a few weeks before knowing the answer of who, or even if it was actually sold. Renault seems more likely than BMW after doing some research. If Hyundai do buy it, it would take months to complete because of all the parts Volvo supplies to Ford.

Thats only because their prices were ridiculous which resulted in poor sales.

Renault owns a majority of Nissan, IIRC. That's what fasts60r is referring to.

Ding, ding, ding! Renault owns Nissan, same CEO runs both companies (and runs himself ragged...).

And who knows, Volvo could be the next Chrysler:

Private equity groups are expected to be interested in Volvo, as they are in the sales of the British brands.

They are hoping for a RWD performance Volvo.

Wouldn't that make it pretty much the same thing as a BMW?

So one, why would BMW do that. Competition within their own brands?

Two, if anyone wants that, just buy a damn bimmer.

And Volvo's entire company is based on safety, so why would they have a RWD performance oriented model?

meah makes you fee any better, I've driven a 69 mach 1 mustang. (tis daddy's car, I've helped him do some work on it over the years) sadly, she is an automatic...

I've driven two six-speeds. Test drove a versa (before my parents were saying they were going to sell me the volvo...I needed a cheap car...god I felt dirty after that drive, apologies to anyone who owns/drives one) and that was a six speed...really should not have been....and when my car was getting the brakes done, my friend let me take out his acura rsx...six speed again.

I learned how to drive on a stick corolla. that's only five! lol

but yeah, you're right, compared to everyone else I guess I am a driving n00b. I only started driving just shy of my 18th birthday. got my g2 right before my 19th (ontario people know what that means, everyone else it's your basic 365 probationary, where you can't have ANY booze in you, everyone's gotta be buckled in...you're apparantly not supposed to drive out of province (oops) and all sorts of other fun stuff) and I got my full G (full licence...) when I was...20-21ish. So yeah, I've only been driving almost six years. how dare I be born in 83. and enough of an immauture brat that my parents would not let me get my g1 (learner's permit) when I was sixteen lol ;)
