Warning About Pcv Job

This sucks...so what is the consensus here. My PVC is done as per FCP diagram. But as some of you know I'm still getting smoke from the dipstick tube. I guess I too, will be redoing the job this weekend and switching the intake hose to the middle port and the cam hose to the one closest by the block. More work but still saving money, right <_<

Oreo did Mr. Winkey settle it for you?

I truly believe that eeuroparts pic shows the correct set up. Regardless, it should not matter which hose goes where as that oil trap is just an empty box. Is it? Has anyone taken their old one apart to see what's inside?

Yea, Binglax09 said he did and hes a mechanic. Its in Here. He has a pic of what the inside of it looks like also. He says the hole right in the center of the top of the oil trap goes to the air intake hose.

Still waiting to hear from him. I hope to hear back soon because I am supposed to start taking my car apart for this as soon as I get off work...I need my car for the weekend so this needs to be finished ASAP.

Maybe I can look him up? If anyone has his number it would be MUCH appreciated if you could get in touch with him.

My V70 I did this on is a N/A.

I followed FCP disgram, which i now notice is different for the NA and the Turbo.

the Turbo Oreo posted, (here it is again)

pcv94_850turbo.jpg

and here is the NA

If the oil trap is the same i don't understand the difference.

*Edit* started a new page, so i posted the turbo graphic so you dont have to scroll.

Look at this pic from EEuroparts. Here.

The hole in the center of the top of the trap goes to the intake hose just like Binglax says in his post/pic.

I just looked at the trap in my garage which has the original hoses still attached and the hole in the center of the top(the trap) goes to the air intake.

So as you can see the FCP diagram is different from the EEuroparts diagram.

Both pics are not real accurate if you look at them. The hole in the center of the top of the oil trap goes to the air intake from what I see out of all of this like Binglax points out with his diagram and post.

Looks the same as the FCP diagram to me......

I had increased crankcase pressure when I had the lines hooked up wrong. Line kept popping off the nipple on the cam cover spewing oil everywhere, swapped the hoses and all was well. Could it have been due to other reasons? Yes, but swapping them solved the problem for me. Vadis matches the FCP diagram as well IIRC.

The diagram you posted is different from the one I posted. Look closely.

i know, you posted the Turbo, (which i reposted) and I posted the N/A version.

Nope , the hole in the center top of the oil trap goes to the air intake(expand the pic). The hole on the edge of the trap goes to the top of the engine.

bah, you're right. I was looking at da pictar bakwards. :arob:

Yes, thats what this thread is all about whether the turbo FCP pic is accurate or not. The pic Oreo posted about the turbo setup from FCP is what the debate here is all about. Everything Ive seen points to the fact the picture is wrong for the turbo and should look like the 2nd pic above that is of the NA. My original Volvo setup looks like the one for the NA in the second pic and so said Geevs and Binglax09 and pics in the Chilton and Haynes manual.

i just checked in VADIS and the part # for the oil trap seems to be the same for both turbo and non turbo: 1271988.

that was for 1998 V70.

so now we have the same oil trap box with VADIS showing two different ways of connecting it. <_<

i imagine some tech writer goofed and engineering department never verified.

what a mess. does anyone who works at a volvo dealership able to call volvo engineering and verify?

Binglax's drawing makes a complete sense and therefore fcp has incorrect picture for turbo. The only thing wrong with drawing is the lower block hole must be on the right hand corner. The pcv to air intake hose has to go in the middle of the oil trap.

fcp has copied the drawing from VADIS parts section.

the weird thing is that VADIS has this presumebly incorrect drawing in their 2005 edition. then again how many PCV jobs this forum has done and the topic came up in 2007..

i have a hard time following binglanx's drawing. what's the significance of the vacuum tube in the middle?
