Zaitz
Sweet! Did you buy it or rent it? I did buy it. It's an older AF-I model that is a hell of a lot cheaper than AF-S and even more so than the VR versions. My dad does falconry and should be getting a red tailed hawk soon so hopefully I'll be able to use it a lot for that. I also plan to do quite a bit of wildlife this winter. That is the plan anyway. gdizzle
First shot is w/ the 105 f2.
Zaitz
1st and 3rd are great. I think the 1st shows what the 105 does really well. The idea in the 3rd is great and executed nicely, quite unique. First decent shot with the 300mm. The hummingbird made sure it was on the other side of the feeder so it's a shame you can't see it's beak. gdizzle
Thanks Zach, when shooting w/ kids you don't have a lot time to dial things in... Ideally for the 3rd shot I would have liked to have grabbed the .9 ND so I could drag the shutter longer, but that didn't happen. However, I'm pretty pleased with the results, even though it's not quite what I envisioned. Plus the couple didn't exactly do what I requested. I wanted them very rigid, w/ no smile, almost expressionless. But it works. Another one w/ the

I concur. Nice shot Zach! Thanks. I could sit out all day taking wildlife photos I think. I just missed the last rays of light in that shot too. 5 minutes earlier and the evening sun would have lit up the feeder and bird. The background would still have been in the shade giving more background seperation. Although you don't quite need that when your subject is 10 feet away with a 300mm at f/2.8. Greg, whats your opinion on the 85mm 1.4 vs 105 dc? Edited August 30, 2010 by Zaitz
ruecatinat
Zaitz, love those hummingbirds. We have a feeder up at the cottage but my little cousins have a habit of knocking it off it's branch Here are a few I took at an outdoor boat show this weekend:

Those look like they could have benefited from some nice late evening lighting. I think that would have helped them a bunch.

Only had time to take a few casuals in between a work shoot so early afternoon lighting was all I could manage.
