gdizzle
Awesome location, Jan! Are you allowed to show the non-actioned photos? I dig the jumping shot.
JCviggen
It was a vacation with a little work mixed in, it was indeed a nice location. We spread the work out over a few evenings (very bright sun until ~4PM anyway) she was sunburnt in the end. She's a bit of a fashion icon and she wants it the way she wants it...you should see the "slimming" work done on her afterwards! I always feel my pics get ruined in the end Always a lot of arguing going on here at home about how to process the pics Straight from the cam it looked like this (well...after RAW conversion)

gdizzle
Thanks Greg! So you've been using that 4x5 crown graphic, right? Where are you having the film developed, or are you developing it yourself? Reason I ask is, I just found out I'm inheriting a load of cameras (My great uncle was a photographer), one of which is a Rochester Opitcal view camera in working condition. As w/ all my cameras, I'd like to take it for a spin.
Che'_Moderator
1) Is there any type of filters you can throw on that will not mess with image resolution and/or contrast? I bought a a few UV filters (Tiffen and Hoya) and I noticed a definite decline in sharpness and contrast? How about clear glass for protection? (if your going to recommend a $100 a pop B + W or something dont waste your time..) Stay away from cheap filters if you are that worried. There are APO skylight filters out there. If you are worried about contrast get an apo CP. Depending on lens size you are looking at 60-120 for the skylight or 200+ for the CP. The quality is fantastic and prices pretty good. Apparently Samy's in California has really good pricing on 4x5, not sure on the quality. $1.70 a sheet! http://www.samys.com/common/samys_creative/static/images/pricesfilmlab.pdf For b&w I develop my own. If I did more color I would probably end up trying to develop it myself as well. B&W is just too easy. This Combiplan tank makes it super easy: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Combi-Plan-Sheet-Developing-System/dp/B0000ALKEH

I like the black and white above the best though. Lifted from his flickr I did not know how Velvia would reproduce the scene and I wanted to shoot 3 other types of color film to compare but my cable release broke. I do know Velvia can have a magenta cast to it. I injected more magenta into the digital images with a graduated color overlay.
Zaitz
Thanks Greg. There is some work in that shot but not nearly as much as the digital ones. Velvia is pretty saturated but I scan the negatives a bit flat so that all the information the negative contains ends up getting scanned. I could scan a much punchier version but I'd risk crushing the blacks and blowing the highlights. I'd rather do the minor edits in Photoshop than in the scanning software. On my work monitor it looks like dog shit. I hope it looks better again when I get home otherwise I really screwed that one up. Edit: The sky looks muddled on my home monitor too. And I saw this again the other day. I always like seeing Ansel Adams' before/afters. The UV/HAze filters are for the birds!! I would not mind finding high quality protective glass as long as it does not increase flare or cause IQ levels. Finally got a HD-LED 22" screen in today, so maybe I can see WTF I am doing now . Jan what ever happened to the "rated R" set of pictures you had from awhile ago??? I know you did not start a post in the R forum with them. Ice Plant by fluorineironrhenium, on Flickr
