Only has some slight scuff marks on the body where the 24-70 tag is (gold has rubbed off). Lens has been cleaned by Nikon twice.
RBoy8
Great price for that too! 24-70 f2.8 has been on my mind (along with the 70-200 f2.8), I just don't know whether to pull the trigger on them now, or take a bit more time to figure out where exactly I want to go with my photography. Well, wherever you go, you should have BOTH of those lenses. They're standards for every bag in every genre. I need to send my 70-200 out for repair. The aperture blades are sticking. I haven't used it since I got the 200mm f2 VR. BUT, I have a job coming up soon at a location I've shot before with the 200f2 and the 70-200 is the better lens for the job due to distance constraints. RBoy8
Greg, what's your opinion on going with 3rd party companies for the 24-70 and 70-200 2.8? I've been reading around about Sigma and Tamron variants, and it seems like each of them excel in different areas, while the Nikkor ones essentially are the best at covering both aspects. One option I was thinking of going for was picking up a used Sigma for now, and then after using that for a bit, grab myself a Nikkor VRII version, but then I'm also thinking that would be silly and I should just spend that little bit more for a VRI then grab a VRII later on when I'm ready. It has 0 engagement. Lighting is terrible. It's poorly composed and you never want a portrait where the only thing you can see in the eyes is the whites. The second photo is leaps and bounds better and the lighting is largely improved, although the (yes I know it's a candid photo) lighting is harsh casting a shadow over the eye sockets. Still not a great portrait, but 1000x better than the first. The last shot is great. Lighting is great. Subject engagement is great. Composition is great. Thumbs up. Do more of that. The sigma and tamron lenses are now viable options. They're great lenses, but the nikkor lenses excel over both. The Nikkor 70-200 VRII is just amazing. My new nikkor 24-70 2.8 VR is awesome, but it has a lot of chromatic aberrations, it's the only lens I actually have to fix in post for this. Otherwise, it's amazing and it's so sharp. The VR works great too. DSC_9640.jpg by KeysarPhoto, on Flickr DSC_5639.jpg by KeysarPhoto, on Flickr
RBoy8
Thanks for the advice, Greg! As I've been shooting, I've realized how important lighting can be and has been something I've been continuously trying to work through. It's fun though, it always keeps me thinking, especially when snapping candids. Question about the second picture. Had it not been a candid shot, and was one where I was working with the person, what would have been the best way to brighten up those shadows around the eyes (without having to turn the subject around or change their position)? Would something like a large reflector work well, or can an external flash with a diffuser help? I've been following your Flickr, and also reading on the difference between focal lengths and I think I'm finally ready bite the bullet and invest in both the 24-70 and 70-200. Price-wise (CDN prices here ), what do you think of this for a 70-200 f2.8 VR? http://www.henrys.com/49185-USED-NIKON-AFS-VR-70-200-2-8G-8-Plus-.aspx - through the local classifieds, they've been priced around $1300-$1500. Just for reference, this is how much the Sigma 70-200 goes for new up here: http://www.henrys.com/60470-SIGMA-OS-70-200MM-F2-8-EX-DG-HSM-NIKON.aspx And the Tamron: http://www.henrys.com/76262-TAMRON-70-200MM-SP-2-8-DI-VC-USD-NIKON.aspx (a note on this one, I can get this one through a friend's father's camera shop for $1399) I've been looking through the local classifieds and from what I've seen, the Nikkor 24-70 non-VR here ranges from $1300-1500. I wish I could've bought yours but the Canadian dollar has been so weak. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-camera-camcorder-lens/city-of-toronto/nikon-lens-24-70mm-f-2-8-g-ed/1128844919?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true http://www.kijiji.ca/v-camera-camcorder-lens/city-of-toronto/nikon-24-70mm-f2-8g-ed-lens/1142046902?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I'm aiming to spend less than $2K CDN for each lens so I haven't been looking at new Nikkor lenses............................................. one day though, one day! ruecatinat
Anyone a fan of the Nikkor DX 35MM 1.8? Been using my 60MM 2.8 (full frame) on my D7000 daily for over 2 years now and it's a little long for indoor/studio use for what I do (product photography in a light tent)
