Noisy Lifters - Replacing Oil Pan O-rings

While we are bumping and killing this dead horse… the lifter noise IS caused by the oil pickup tube drawing in air when the seal gets old. The lifter noise is NOT caused by a loss of pressure. The air rises to the top of the engine and collects in the lifters causing them to compress when they should be hydro locked in the correct thickness. Air in the oil is a bad thing! Oil is not the greatest heat transfer medium to begin with and after adding lots of air to it, it gets worse. The air in the oil also fails to provide the uniform oil film needed to keep parts from crashing and rubbing into one another. The noise is an indication that the rest of the engine is not being protected very well.

Hi... I havn't really posted much on this board prior, but I did follow most of you with the issues on service/problems and remedies etc.. I find it very usefull, Thanks .

Anyhow I did folow the precedure on the lifter noise and after trying many cleaners I decided to do the oil pan seals last weekend on my 94 850 Turbo. milage is 240 000 Km. on the clock. Runs strong and it's in fantastic shape, as a matter of fact it's in better shape than my 4 years old pontiac vibe. LOL

I started to hear valve noise on low acceleration, did the oil cleaners, mystery oil , volvo 3 can precedure etc and nothing, so after doing the mentioned above oil seal service which took me good 5 hours. I noticed even louder valve noise right now and especially when cold it's rough for about 5-10 minutes... I have filled the crancase with 10W30 valvoline oil and fram right guard filter.....

Did I do something wrong ????? I'm almost tempted to take the pan down and checking it again if the seals didn't got pinched by any chance.....

Is there any thing you guys can suggest to me ????? It would be higly appreciated.

I'm also looking for some volvo fanatics that I can meet up in Toronto Canada or near by....

cheers

martin

Seamus, so is this oil pickup tube seal included in the o-ring kit? and does the 95 850 turbo have this square sealing ring?
