Heater Core Replaced 6 Months Ago

So the driver's side of my car has had coolant in the carpet since day 1 of ownership of my 98 T5.. So I had the heater core replaced thinking it would solve that problem. A month went by and it seemed better than it just started leaking again. My mechanic said it was the connectors through the firewall so he replaced them free of charge. Now a few months after that it is leaking still and getting worse. I filled my coolant reservoir Thursday evening and it is down to almost empty now Tuesday.. all coolant leaking on the driver side floor board. Do you think it is the core again? I am not using heat just AC.. any help would be appreciate

are you 100% positive that your mechanic replaced the entire assembly in the firewall. It's not easy to get to, and he would have to disconnect the lines from under the hood also.

If he replaced just the orings and clips up there, then the actual black firewall throughput may be cracked. if he did replace that, then I would make sure he installed the orings and ears correctly. if he did that correctly, the only thing left to check before you replace the core again is the piping coming down to the core from the wall. that can develop corrosion and leak, or the mating point at the heater core is somehow not tight.

lots of things to check, but fortunately they are all in the same area. grab a good flashlight, and have a look.

He actually mentioned the pipes from the wall to the core.. He did replace the firewall throughput it definitely was cracked. It was a pain in the ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD to get to I watched him do it. So I am assuming the pipes are definitely it. Really frustrating.

so when he bought that throughput assembly, he knew that the orings and ears were already in there right? all he had to do was put the entire thing in the firewall, and press the hoses in? are you sure he didn't pinch an oring or crack the assembly/ears again? very likely especially on the inside where the piping is a tight fit. he could have forced it in there a bit, and messed it up.

like I said, the best way to find out is to grab a flash light, and look up there. you'll see a water trail or spot where water has been dribbling from. it's very easy to spot if it's been going on for a while. or turn the car on, turn the heater on, and get under there and see where it's coming from. shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to figure the entire thing out for yourself.
