freeskier8585
Still have the clunk i was talking about before. ruled out end links, sways, anything related to control arms, tie rods and the left side axle (all are new). Happens when shifting from F to R (or vice versa) and slow speed turning (parking). Also, if lifted, the gears are changed (going to N in between, no brake) the sound does not happen, but does happen when force is applied (brake). please help me, also im driving back to Va on tuesday, so ill have to do it there (with the help of someone on here...hopefully ). erikv11
well there ain't much left it could be, but the passenger axle/CV joint is one thing consistent with what you describe. If it is bad, then the clunking should be more noticeable (worse) when making left turns. Bad CV joints clunk especially when they are the outside wheel in a turn. freeskier8585
it only happens on left turns, so i thought it was the right one... stuff buckets i replaced the wrong part.
TM850R
I know you said that you ruled out anything related to control arms but did you tighten all the control arm nuts down to spec?
Yellow95
I had that with my wagon. Found that the endlinks werent tight. Tightened them up and no more clunk.Gary
freeskier8585
Yes, i have retorqued the entire suspension 2 times now. The clunk can happen when the car is not even moving, and it does happen when turning to both directions, and really does feel like its from the left side, but i cant tell for sure. AlvinL
Bad CV joints don't only exhibit those typical click-click-click during turns anymore. And, it's not easy to diagnose. Don't ask me how I know...
Gilhuly
Engine/tranny mounts have been ruled out?
prasamin
start by checking the lower trans mount....i bet you the rubber bushing is totally severed.
Mike_P
Another place to look (but it is a longshot) - check the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine. When I had my budget RMS job done these bolts were not properly torqued and most were loose. I had a clunk when shifting that tightening up the bolts fixed. A few of them are a hassle to get to, but you can check them all.I'd check the mounts before I did anything else though.
freeskier8585
start by checking the lower trans mount....i bet you the rubber bushing is totally severed.I forgot to mention that every single mount is new, and the top one is filled with urethane, btw, that is so easy to do. So it could be my right side CV even though there are no typical CV like sounds.... I am at a loss here.Another place to look (but it is a longshot) - check the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine. freeskier8585
no one has ever messed with the tranny, but since the car is on the lift now ill check that out.
stm1up
Watching the video it sounds like it's coming from the area of the CV joint and out towards the rotor. The boot looks dry and intact but it almost seems like there's a bulge in the boot that matches the back and forth sound of the grind, like the joint is rotating eliptically. I've never seen one do that before?
freeskier8585
I replaced that axle, both of mine rotate elliptically.
