Che'_Moderator Posted September 12, 2007 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 As some of you know over the last few weeks I have been working on a search engine that searches the following sites to provide hand selected results which are free from the spammy sites google has been returning. So far the following sites are indexed:Volvo CarsSwedespeedVivaMotorspotEvolve IPDQuickBrickFCPVolvospeedTurbobricksEurosporttuningVolvo Motor SportsI have also built a dictionary for commonly mispelled words, so if you get low results now and there is a common word close to you search the engine will make a suggestion. I am in the process of playing with synonyms so the engine knows that something like boot can be the same as trunk but will but more weight on the original term. At this point I am looking for feedback. How often do you think the sites should be reindexed, or any other thoughts before I am too far in. The search engine is spread over 4 databases consisting of ~1.5 gigs and 310 tables each. Due to the size I want to see if this is something you guys will use and what major changes need to be done so I can have a general plan. Feedback welcomed. I think it'll be just that cut-and-dry for everyone else too. Why does it index VMS? Does it just return threads linking to VS about the love for VMS? Can we get a way to decide what sites to search? Check box system maybe?I can built categories like vendors, forums, misc, but breaking out a drop bar and indexing 20 some sites independently may be a pain.
