Some cones are designed to not only just create but also modify the waves so you'd be losing out on those properties in an inverted setup. Generally, inverted doesn't sound as good, but most people can't tell the difference. My personal opinion is that inverted setups aren't that great. You gain a bit of internal volume in your box but the space outside the box that you're losing makes it a wash. In some cases it's actually worse because you have to compensate by cutting out more than the sub volume to get a fit. I also think that showing off baskets is kind of lame. Even if you have an Immortal with a huge chrome basket, it's not really going to impress anyone except for people who don't know anything about audio and who haven't already seen it a million times.
