--Aaron--
Physical and drug screening are complete.....20/20 vision and 97.6% use of my hearing still, yay! Not bad for being in a loud environment constantly for 4.5 years. Bastards need to call me now, I'm ready for OT and heavy modding. The woman said I was healthy as a horse and was amazed when I told her I smoke a pack of cigs a day, if not more.
BtownVolvo
BTW Greg, I was really trying to stop down to get the depth of field I wanted. This ended up with me using about a 1.5" exposure. Like I said, I really need a decent flash. I never thought about stopping for the ambient light and not flash. The way I thought of it was if I stopped for ambient light, I would way over-expose and end up with annoying blue flash lighting. Interesting... gdizzle
Save your money on an SB600 and get a more powerful and cheaper SB25 off ebay for ~100 bucks. Then, buy an alien bees cyber sync transceiver and receiver, that'll cost about you 120 bucks. Then pick up a decent light stand, 60" umbrella, bogen/monfrotto cold shoe mount, and an umbrella adapter for about another 120 bucks. You can then shoot off camera flash..., and it will transform your photos. On camera flash is for the birds. I have the SB600, and I use about 5% of its functions. I shoot everything in manual. The CLS was cool, for about a week.

When depth of field comes into play whilst using flashes, you need to figure out what F stop you want to be at, then figure out what flash power you need to achieve that F stop. It's really easy though, and the use of digital cameras make it even easier since you can just take test shots.. If you want to be at f7 for DOF purposes, and you set your flash to a 1/1 power setting and your subject is overexposed, you can do two things. You can turn the flash power down a few levels, (each level equals a stop of light, think the difference between f5 and f5.6), or you can stop down to f8 or f9. You maintain your DOF, and gain the proper desired exposure. Then you can set your shutter speed for whatever desired amount of ambient light you'd like. If you want to totally kill the ambient light, just shoot at 250th (of course this depends on how powerful your flash is in conjunction of the brightness of the ambient light source, e.g. sun vs. spot light). BtownVolvo
Ouch...my head hurts. Thanks for the info Greg! I'll do a little more research on the SB-25! My one thing is I want to do more than portraits or still life. Something like rolling shots or action shots. Thinking a fast lens like the 50mm 1.4 with the flash? Browsing B&H, there's also a 35mm 1.8?
