I drive 50 miles now, and I can get to my office in 55-60 minutes.

That would drive me in-fucking-sane unless I would be able to use public trans. I'm starting to look for work specifically along our train line just so I can take that daily

I don't even...

It would be better if his plate lined up with the slash

So is that why you've never made it out to any GTG in NoVa? :P

I think I could stand working at PAX (and have) but Dahlgren! Are you S-hitting me!

Two reason, 1 the times and dates often don't jive with my schedule, and 2, I'm incredibly busy.

Work is work. Why couldn't stand working at Dahlgren? What makes one base more appealing than the other. From La Plata, Dahlgren is a 30 min drive and you have a higher probability of being allowed to blow shit up.

I've been doing it for 10 years. It's not that bad. It does suck, but it's what you make it.

Is that your old car, photoshopped to death?

Naw, just some random thing that popped up in my FB feed. "

Our new Facebook timeline layout is live! Thanks to Glenn Jr. for the great photo of his S70R in our header!"

I've worked at Dahlgren and prefer any other base with the exception of Norfolk (and I've worked a lot of them all over the country). From everyone I know that works or has worked there they hate it! They hate the town, they especially hate the area too. One of my coworkers used to throw on a John Deere cap every time he talked about it. I have one of my jobs that his happening with a bunch of folks from Dahlgren and they alway biatch about how when they come to Carderock for testing which is several times a year they wish that there program office was still in the DC area instead of Dahlgren. Another EOD buddy of mine left Dahlgren for Stump Neck cause it was "too boring"...

I have a higher probability of blowing stuff up at Carderock! I did today... ;) I LOVE the "Rock" cause I do so much different kinds of jobs week in and week out. Our slogan is "This is where then Navy begins" from props to hulls to maneuvers... And it's just not the Navy, it's Marines, Coast Guard, foreign Navys. From private industry to private yachts to Americas Cup race boats, I do a lot of different kinds of testing... Wiki Link. And its not just at the base either, I've done sea trials of model and full scale ship testing, gotten joy rides on LCACs and ONRs Xcraft (40+ knots is really fun!), spent a month in Normandy, France documenting ship wreaks from the D-Day invasion. Last month I was working with an engineer from Indian Head doing under water explosive jets. 2 weeks ago I was in Key West riding the bow of a ship shooting video. This week I'm shooting Hi Speed video of 8' bubbles in our explosive test pond. Next month I'll be shoot Hi Speed of explosive pressure waves using Schlieren and for that I got to take a tour of the Air Forces Arnold Engineering Development Centers hypervelocity wind tunnel in White Oak. I don't think I personally could find a better job at any other base. And if I did, I certainly wouldn't be able to do such a variety of work too, which would get old fast doing the same thing day in and day out. But hey "Work is Work" to some. Whatever floats your boat....

Greg if you're ever want to the worlds largest tow basin let me know I'll give you a personal tour. All you need is a CAC.

Okay since we're helping dave, Someone help me.

Got a job in North Hagerstown

Anyways I want a place that allows me to work on my car (garage most likely) but is close to some nightlife. I'm hoping to stay in Hagerstown but looking at Frederick too. Anyone know any areas in these cities that I should be looking? Hoping for a 2bed place so I can rent the other room out.

First of "night life in Hagerstown"? :arob: I could give you the address of my buddy that owns a cattle farm in Fairplay, he might let you tip the cows at night. Second, are you looking to buy or rent? Both should be pretty cheap. What's the job?

AT least there is the metro going out to Loudoun, buses and slug lines. I think if I am out the door by 6am I would be fine.

Exactly why we bought in Ashburn though my wife and I both work in Sterling now so that makes things much easier. My thoughts are that once metro comes out that I can venture closer to the city for a better job and get my career back on track after being a stay at home parent for 4.5 years.

Congrads John! I think I know a Subaru guy that works their, his name is Micah, I met him at a NASIOC meeting or two (screen name is Homemade WRX). He and several NASIOC guys go to Dogfish Head in Gaithersburg every week for a meet. We also have another meet in Tysons in Clydes every Thursdays that I go to. If you get rid of BB instead of getting a Miata or S2K get a WRX or STi. Those are bada$$ little cars. I'm so glad I got a Forester for my wife! And tuning/modding it is soooo much easier then Volvo!!

I'm happy that my wife and I are so close to 3 of the Tysons stops. We can walk to them in about 15min or take the bus that will run at the end of my street. I have a coworker that's waiting for the line to come to Reston. After that he and his wife will cash in and sell there place and move to Charlottesville to retire...
