As much of an old man as I am, I don't get what the big deal is about young kids having cellphones. They are a very important modern communicate device. Both for safety, convenience, and keeping the kid with the times. They don't need to have the latest device, just give them your hand-me-down. Costs $10/mo to add them to the family plan.

Txting and Data Plans obviously cost extra. But if you already had a family unlimited text plan... then $10 it is. Depends on how you really want to count what "true" cost per phone is.

Actually we have an "extra" phone at work. We are on a corporate plan and if we reduce the number of phones the package changes and we would end up paying more so we keep the "extra" around for no other reason. It has unlimited minutes, SMS, MMS, etc. Not a smart phone but a cool perk for a 6th grader. Of course when I say I'll keep the phone "around" nobody asked what that meant. I guess as long as I know where it's at then it is all good!

I know what you meant..Verizon changed their plans last fall and when I left my wife and had to get a "new" account I had to go with new rate scale..which is all the same price.

People with old plans are still grandfathered in though to get the good rates

I have a business plan and didn't want to add them to the business so I had to open a new acct (they used to be on "her" acct)

We have a couple of "seasonal" phones around for this reason..we have summer help use them during the day. Just plain phones though

This is what Mike is talking about:

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56116507-78/church-women-general-prayer.html.csp

It's a step that never should have been necessary. It's a shift that the doctrine always supported but for whatever reason there was an unstated rule that only men pray at General Conference sessions which are semi-annual meetings of the Church over 5 two hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday when the Prophet, Apostles, and other Church leaders share messages with the entire Church.

Women speak from the pulpit and lead prayers in our local Sunday meetings on a regular basis. When I am responsible for coordinating the Sunday service I purposely schedule women as the closing speaker or as all 3 speakers just to mix up what seems to have been a norm at one time when supposedly a woman shouldn't pray in the Sunday services or that she should not say the opening prayer.

The Mormon Feminists are rejoicing. I'm conflicted over the whole thing because it speaks to an unresolved question of what it means to be ordained to the priesthood (all worthy males 12 and older are ordained to various offices) vs what aspects of culture are driving rules and decisions. We believe in continuous revelation so who knows what the future holds. Hopefully a more balanced understanding of what it means to lead in the Church though I doubt we'll see female ordination in my lifetime - specifically because I'm not sure those advocating for it (a very small minority) appreciate why God might have chosen to arrange things as they are.

Driving down the highway in Nevada, about 85F out with the sun beating down nice and hot, I kept smelling coolant. Eventually we noticed it was every time we were behind a tractor trailer. Not a specific one, but several. Is this normal? Do they just boil over coolant like it's a consumable? I've never noticed this before in New England.
