Working on the loading dock today at school. Needless to say it's kinda warm out. But nonetheless, watched someone stop in mid-stride, slowly keel over, and then completely fall over landing on one of our large wooden flat-bed carts with their face momentarily passing out. Decent amount of blood from nose and mouth. It was pretty scary thing to see. Ambulance came and took him to the hospital.

Was it a union loading dock where everyone had to stand there until a union supervisor called 911?

Does anyone have any sources for shipping vehicles and moving an apartment? I'm thinking I may just fly home and have all my possessions shipped there rather than driving down if the price is right.

Call A2B Systems (Clay and Rob) and ask for a quote. Feel free to tell them (or not) that Matt from Exim-Cars gave you their name. They'll quote the car shipping portion.

My advice would be to rent a U-Haul with a trailer and do it yourself. I'm guessing you're not moving a 2500 sq ft house so it ought to fit in a normal sized U-Haul.

Thanks Matt, ill give it a try. If the uHaul way is the cheapest I may just do that, I just wasn't prepared to spend upwards of $1700 just to rent the truck and tow dolly.

Plenty of other options if that's what U-Haul is quoting but it will add up quickly. Figure about $600-$800 for the car in an open carrier going across the US. Belongings need to be packed and hauled which can cost a lot, quickly. As Tommy Boy asked, does your company give you anything towards the cost of relocating across the US ?

Company paying for any part of the move?

They are supposed to reimburse me, and I am actually on the phone right now trying to sort all of that out.

Yeah I assumed something in that price range for the car, but I'm glad to see a second opinion. As for my belongings, I was considering just ordering a POD and packing that up to have it shipped. That is shaping up to be potentially the best option right now.

Why not sell most of what you have and pack the essentials into your car and then buy new stuff when you get there?

I'd do it moving overseas but this seems extreme for the US.

Timmy ( :P ): the pod is a great idea, I forgot about that.

Move from border to border? The idea of a new job, a new place to live, a new environment, and new things sounds awesome. If I was in the position that he's in, fuck yeah I would ditch all of my things and start fresh. Bring items that can easily fit in my car and hold a sentimental value. The rest is expendable, IMO.

You're a hipster.

He's a player.

You lowered your 850.

He lifted his S70 (at least the front end).

Different strokes for different folks.

I agree. I was just asking if that was an option. Spending almost $2k on just moving your stuff seems like a lot when you could sell your stuff, save the money, and use it to furnish your new place. Especially if his company doesn't cover moving expenses. I know my brother will be moving all of his stuff from his old apartment in Minneapolis to Chicago, but his company will cover any expenses.

Hey, I finally lowered my S70 so that is invalid :P

I'm looking into pods now though, I'm going to be donating a lot of the clothes I have I think, and after that we'll see where that leaves me.

Contemplate the question and consider asking the company:

1. Here's what it's going to cost me to move all my stuff

2. If I get rid of my stuff can I get the same dollar amount in return and this will then allow me to stash my remaining stuff in the car and drive it out to CA and then replace the items I sold (which you're going to do anyway, trust me).
