Fudge_Brownie
I thought it was never recommended to tow with a turbo but I'm always surprised to see so many hitches installed on turbo Volvos. Be careful, take it easy while towing and good luck with the new job, home, well new almost everything!Pretty sure the issue is more weight than the act of towing. Because it keeps it spooled up, and heats up the oil. But ours are also coolant-cooled and pretty sure a tow hitch was a dealer option. Just be easy on the gas pedal if you want to keep it cool. Another issue is transmission fluid temperatures, but again, not sure how significant that is with modest loads and a factory cooler. Timbo Slice
I'm definitely going to be keeping load on the lower end, A. Because that's how I normally drive: out of boost to save fuel economy on a regular basis, and B. because ill have my dad in the car and he's done this a million times. I'm just nervous a bit if my car will handle it, but after all the work I've done to it since purchasing it I'm pretty optimistic she will handle the trip just fine. In addition, obviously ill be on highway most of the way so that will save a lot of acceleration.
Burn-E
Yeah just make sure you avoid attaching too large of a U-Haul trailer to the car. It's not so much about towing capacity as it is the counterweight of the car to the trailer. All it takes is some good wind for the trailer to rip the car off the road. See this investigative 3 part series by the LA Times.
Timbo Slice
Yeah that's the other concern. Ill be renting the smallest trailer they offer, 4'x8' enclosed, which should be plenty for my belongings. In addition, ill be loading the heavier items to the rear of the trailer to take the most force off of the hitch joint itself.

I have never heard such a thing. Actually quite the opposite of what I have heard.

Actually quite the opposite of what I have heard. Nevermind the fact that 98% of 18 wheelers are turbo

Manual shift the at a/t if it starts to hunt. I would rather the engine winds than the trans shifts. An external cooler would add some piece of mind.

survolvo
Its a Volvo. Would take some force to blow that thing off the highway I would think.
